Funny thing is that the comment itself is so distorted its sick.......

I know, it really is about the worst advice a parent could give their child (well not the worst, but its up there)

actually it wasn't the only advice... but the other piece is worse  he also said he didn't/doesn't care what i do, as long as i don't get caught or in legal trouble. Nice to know he expects so much of me

Just a quick word on 'guys need to discipline themselves more' generalizations, I don't entirely disagree though here is my partial disagreement.

Psychologically men are geared for a more physical attraction, while this may be appear to be a flaw to some it is entirely natural. Read some Love and Responsibility and JPII can clear that up for you and how it should be well-ordered.

The problem is the society and conditioning that men receive through the media and their families, since speaking from my own position my dad only gave me one line of advice which was to 'wear protection'....so with that said how about we focus on the excess rather than telling the guys they need to shape up, because they need a little more then being criticized.
This is true. It's a tough culture, and it's hard to see the guy's side of things sometimes, so thank you. Also, kudos for not conforming and not sticking with your dad's advice. (at least that's what i'm assuming you did, from the L&R quotes).

(edited to add "not" between "and" & "sticking with your dad's advice" lol

And Audrey, once you get to know me, you soon realize I don't "conform" to much.

So I was donating platelets at the Red Cross today, laid back in my recliner, squeezing the rubber ball every ten seconds, and listening to Italian radio shows on my iPod. But there was a television going, too. I haven't watched television in years, but you can't go anywhere these days without being bombarded by television. I closed my eyes and listened to Italian most of the time, but every now and then I'd open my eyes, and the first thing I see is the television. So the Ellen DeGeneres show comes on, and she introduces her next guest - some good looking guy - I guess an actor or something. I can't hear what they're saying because of the iPod, but this guy starts to unbuckle his pantaloons like he's gonna drop his drawers right there for the whole world to see!

Actually, he just showed the top of his underpants to the whole wide world - they were orange... I guess that's what he was showing off. But then, he turns around and in fact does drop his drawers to expose about half of his rump to the entire nation!

Modesty. Somebody needs to define that term to Ellen DeGeneres and whoever her guest was.

This reminds me of something

Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of a neighbouring kingdom.
The monarch could have killed him, but was moved by Arthur's youthful happiness. So he offered him
freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer; if, after a year, he
still had no answer, he would be killed.

The question was:
What do women really want?

Such a question would perplex even the most knowledgable man, and, to young Arthur, it seemed an impossible query.

Well, since it was better than death, he accepted the monarch's proposition to have an answer by year's end. He returned to his
kingdom and began to consult everybody: the princesses, the prostitutes, the priests, but no one could answer the question.

What most people did tell him was to consult the old witch, as only she would know the answer. The price would be high, since the
witch was famous throughout the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged.

The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no alternative but to talk to the witch. She agreed to answer his question, but he'd have
to accept her price first:

The old witch wanted to marry Gawain, the most noble of the Knights of the Round Table and Arthur's closest friend!

Young Arthur was horrified: she was hunch-backed and awfully hideous, had only one tooth, smelled like sewage water, often made
obscene noises...

He had never run across such a repugnant creature. He refused to force his friend to marry her and have to endure such a burden.

Gawain, upon learning of the proposal, spoke with Arthur. He told him that nothing was too big a sacrifice compared to Arthur's life and
the preservation of the Round Table.

Hence, their wedding was proclaimed, and the witch answered Arthur's question:
"What a woman really wants is to be able to be in charge of her own life."

Everyone instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth and that Arthur's life would be spared. And so it went. The neighbouring
monarch spared Arthur's life and granted him total freedom.

What a wedding Gawain and the witch had! Arthur was torn between relief and anguish. Gawain was proper as always, gentle and courteous.
The old witch put her worst manners on display. She ate with her hands, belched and farted, and made everyone uncomfortable.

The wedding night approached: Gawain, steeling himself for a horrific night, entered the bedroom. What a sight awaited! The most beautiful woman
he'd ever seen lay before him! Gawain was astounded and asked what had happened.

The beauty replied that since he had been so kind to her (when she'd been a witch), half the time she would be her horrible, deformed self, and the other
half, she would be her beautiful maiden self.

Which would he want her to be during the day and which during the night?

What a cruel question? Gawain began to think of his predicament:

During the day a beautiful woman to show off to his friends, but at night, in the privacy of his home, an old spooky witch?

Or would he prefer having by day a hideous witch, but by night a beautiful woman with whom to enjoy many intimate
moments? Noble Gawain replied that he would let her choose for herself.

Upon hearing this, she announced that she would be beautiful all the time, because he had respected her and had let her be in charge of her own
life

Maybe the guys should look at some of the girls round here. With their trousers so tight their fat hangs over the top (however slim they are, too small trousers make them look fat) and pulled up too high so they, ahem, unattractively emphasise a certain area  If I was a man I think it would put me off for life!

Personally I live in jeans or leggings most of the time at the moment as they are practical for my job, but do wear lots of dresses too. While my dresses are always long, loose and not revealing I invariably get complements from men when in a dress yet almost never in trousers!

I looked at the poll, and it seems a little bit of everything is a problem. So, that's a challenge to figuring out attire.

So, it would seem that senior type loose trousers are okay? I ocassionally wear them, like with yard work, housework, biking, etc., and sometimes out if I happened to have them on. But it has made me worry, especially in my scupulousity, as to whether it could be a real problem to men. :idontknow: (P.ants something like this but maybe a little looser: http://www.oldpueblo...c/364/16000.uts)

The biggest thing I've done was to quit regular bathing attire, and get a muslim long sleeve shirt and loose pantaloons, that are made for swimming.

I don't wear short sleeved shirts in public anymore, but are those a problem for most men?

I have capris and knee shorts, but I don't wear them around men; mainly just at home when it's wicked hot. I'm considering wearing the capris out when it's hot....

For skirts, I only wear them close to my ankles. I don't like showing a lot of leg.

Man, things would be so much easier and thoughtless if I enter a convent and just wear a habit everyday! :smile2:

There sounds as if there is an unspoken agenda here. That modest attire is necessary to tame men's animal urges and that woman not in modest attire may be to blame if they are attacked. And that women must dress modestly to avoid being objects of lust.

Rapist have often maintained that they were driven by immodesty. "She was asking for it--look at how she was dressed."

In point of fact, women most likely attacked are often covered head to foot, viz. islamic women and African women. Dowdy old women in sack-like dresses and coats.

In countries where head-to-toe covering is the rule a woman can be jailed for immodesty for showing her ankles.

What is immodesty? It's what's in the brain of the onlooker. Many people dress skimpily now, if only to show off their fat. Is this tempting? Is this provocative? Especially when everyone is doing it? I seldom see anyone, aside from babies, who is physically attractive now, no matter how they are dressed.

Dress modestly and appropriately for your age, weight and sun exposure if you want. Few people care or are even looking.

to me, it doesn't matter if it is p[s][/s]ants, a blouse, a T-shirt, a dress, a skirt or whatever....you can look modest and immodest in just about anything. Super tight fitting clothes can make chastity more difficult for me; but once i realize my eyes wander, it's completely up to me to remedy the problem.
