St. Rose of Viterbo was my Confirmation Saint - a beautiful Saint whom I love, but I don't really have a strong devotion to her. I probably should!

Today I would have chosen a different Saint - either St. Therese, or St. Faustina, or St. Clare. Maybe even some others - I love the Saints!

Good to know I'm not the only one who is not really close to my saint. I was beginning to feel that maybe I need to start being more devoted to her, but it's very difficult when you don't know much about her. St. Elizabeth of the Visitation is not well known either, but I just feel such a kinship with her that it doesn't matter to me. :)

I chose St. Monica because I love how she never lost her faith in God and she knocked herself out praying for her son's conversion. And finally because she didn't give up, her prayers were answered. I do still pray to her a lot when I feel like giving up.

Today I probably would've chosen Catherine, Bernadette, Therese, Cecilia or something else. But I do still like Monica and I'm glad I picked her.

Therese: I got a book about her for First Communion and loved it (all you mom's: get this for your daughters), and then when I was trying to pick my confirmation saint, I wanted to pick someone different. Since I loved Mother Teresa and she had just become "Blessed," I thought I would pick her- but then I found out she chose her name because of St. Therese. So, she was always there for me... I still do have a strong devotion to her. Probably would pick her again, but love to learn about new Saints!

she_who_is_not

I was confirmed as an adult and my confirmation saint choice reflects who I am as an adult. I chose St. Martha for several reasons. First, she was a friend of Jesus. She knew him intimately. She witnessed his miracles. She wept over his crucifixion. She rejoiced in the resurrection. I aspire to have an intimate friendship with Christ and St. Martha demonstrates what friendship with Him is like. Secondly, I chose her because of her assertion of faith in John when she says, , "Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world," I wish to always confess my faith in God with as much confidence as Martha did upon Lazarus' death. Lastly, I am a "doer." I am called to serve just as Martha served and I hope and pray that I can remember to serve all as if they were Jesus.

My family was surprised that I chose St. Martha because I've had a devotion to St. Therese since I was a kid. I used to go to the Catholic bookstore and buy books about her!! No one was surprised when I converted! I owe so much to her and I consider her a patron, but at the time of my confirmation I surprised myself by picking St. Martha.

I feel very devoted to her. I pray for her intercession when I struggle with faith or when I get a little too neurotic about people being in "my" kitchen. I've celebrated her feast day before by making a huge meal for my friends and we read and discuss the Gospel passages related to her. I'd like to do that again this year.

I love so many of the saints and I have a few that I am particularly devoted to: St. Rose, St. Therese, St. Faustina but I wouldn't have chosen any of them for my confirmation saint. My devotion to Martha is more like a really deep friendship with someone you speak to once or twice a year, while my relationship with those other gals is more frequent, more chatty, but slightly less meaningful. I think I would choose Martha again.

I'll be honest, I'm not really one to pray to saints at all, just part of Catholicism that I've never taken to. St Cecilia is one who I respect and admire, and who was relevant to me, but I can't say I have ever prayed to her.

It is only recently (last 20mths or so) that I can say I have ever really had an 'awareness' of saints at all. When I was sent away from Carmel it was just as St Therese's relics were touring the country. Im not into relics either, but decided that as I was out I would go and see them - I didn't queue to walk right past them though, just sat at the back, and it was the first time I had even 5minutes inner peace since I was sent away.

Since then I have been very aware of her presence - in all sorts of situations, including when I visited and was being encouraged to enter the Poor Clares. I refer to her as my stalker, and am convinced it is genuine as I am the last person who would have wanted it or been likely to imagine it, in fact I would have laughed if someone had suggested it!

Anyway, this is off topic, but I think that while some may choose saints they have a special devotion to, sometimes its just someone we admire and thats completely right - I have no 'relationship' with St Cecilia but would choose her again not Therese, even after whats happening now.

Tally Marx

My Comfirmation saint is Saint Gianna Molla.
Yes, I do have a devotion to her. She is my favorite woman saint by far (other that Mary, of course!); in my pro-life and youth ministry work, I have found myself up against many of the modern day problems Gianna herself had to cope with. I relate to her very well, and admire her very much, and often ask her help.
However, I cannot say I would definitely pick her again. When I made my Confirmation, girls were not allowed to choose boy saints. Had I been allowed, I probably would have chosen Padre Pio or Father Francis. Now, I can add Bl. Pope John Paul to the list.
.....on second thought, maybe the rule is best; I would have never been able to decide, otherwise!
