bookofjohn
I have just read a news article in Yahoo! abt Kerry receiving communion, thus defying the orders of the Vatican! What's worse I read that Paulist Center is a chapel for cafeteria Catholics?? (e.g. Gay Couples) Is the Paulist Center recognize by Vatican or by any local Catholic authorities? Thanks. cmotherofpirl
Paulists are a religious order, but they probably need the permission of the local Bishop to operate.
CreepyCrawler
"The Paulist Center attracts Catholics uncomfortable with some of the Vatican's orthodox teachings or who otherwise feel alienated from the Roman Catholic Church. In November, its leaders refused to read aloud during Mass from a letter opposing gay marriage, as requested by the Massachusetts bishops." hmmm... it doesn't sound very orthodox to me... Dave
Sadly, the Paulist order doesn't exactly have a reputation for orthodoxy. Surely there are SOME good individual Paulists out there, though.
Hazilloe
i thought it was up to the individual if he or she feels fit to recieve communion.
cmotherofpirl
Its not matter of "fitness". Its a matter of sin. If you go to Holy Communion with a mortal sin on your soul, you further condemn yourself. Your only recourse is to go to Confession before Communion. CreepyCrawler
i thought it was up to the individual if he or she feels fit to recieve communion.
there has to be some standard. for example, if you are not a catholic, you're not supposed to receive communion (except, i believe, in some certain extreme situations). is it wrong for the church to say that since it's not the individual deciding? God Conquers
It is a matter of personal choice, but there must be objective limits. Like Creepy said non-Catholicism is one, and public stances for beliefs which are anathema to the Catholic faith are another, as in the case of abortion and politics.
