Well, I know this story is real but it doesn't matter cuz it's a fake Mass, but ppl had Mass on Second Life a while back.

At one point, when I thought Second Life was going to be more popular than what it's turned out to be, I was looking into creating a phatmass island to evangelize and spread the Catholic faith. After about the 20th time getting asked if I want to buy a penis, I figured it wasn't the best venue for evangelization.

See, now this I don't see as a bad thing. Obviously it's not valid in any way, but I think (if it was done 'right'), this could be a great tool for evangelization on the internet. It might pique just enough curiosity to get people who had never had exposure to Catholicism or Christianity out to a real parish some Sunday.

Interesting idea. I've never tried it but I can't imagine evangelizing on WoW. I agree though, it's just playing Mass in a game so as long as there's nothing blasphemous it's not a big deal.

It's a way of going paperless. Some weird things are going on because of this up here.

That's how a lot of the churches were where I grew up, so I guess it doesn't seem that "Protestant" to me, and I never found it distracting, since it was normal. :idontknow:

Sorry about that. I needed to sell penises to finance my Hale Bop spaceship simulator.

It's currently an ongoing discussion in my church in France. We have an all-age service at the start of the month and the chaplain is keen on having a more "modern" setup - so we use a projector that I've just had installed and we have much of the liturgy and music on it.

Pros:
- Inclusive to some people, particularly to newcomers or for those coming from a more Evangelical church background who aren't used to navigating a liturgy book/hymnbook.
- Better singing from the congregation. With people having to look up to read the words it naturally opens your airway.
- Flexible; can be used for motion picture..
- Some people think it shows the younger members of the congregation that it's ok to use modern equipment ("Jesus can be cool!") Personally skeptical of this one.

Cons:
- Technology is a complete faff and very prone to failiure.
- Needs (some) specialist training to use.
- Overkill in some cases.
- Intrusive to church architecture.

I think its a terrible idea. Either get a zerox or save money for old hymnals.

If it would help those who have no ear be able to miraculously hold a pitch, I'd be for it.

That would be a dream wouldn't it? I adore music and singing has always been a big part of my worship, but it took me years to accept that scripture says to make a joyful noise to the Lord, not a tuneful one!:like:

My problem is that I have perfect pitch, and I have an involuntary reaction when someone near me hits a bad note. I flinch. I have practically given myself a whiplash before. Very irritating.

Oh my goodness this is what they do in my dad's Church. (But it is a Baptist Church) I wouldn't like it no matter what kind of Church it is because well for one thing, not everyone has great eyes, especially if they sit toward the back. Next they'll be like "Follow the bouncing ball!"

It's so annoying and disrespectful to the blessed sacrament and to the mass. Why should everybody be facing towards, most times in the opposite direction of the altar? Then they add cool backgrounds and pictures and transitions then what you got is a mini movie that entertains.
