4588686
Not to be confused with the Dostoevsky character of the same name lol.
Tolstoy. Assuming that you're refering to "The Death of Ivan Illych". There could be a Dostoevsky character with the same name that I don't remember.
Ivan Illich was actually German by birth, but lived in Latin America and the United States most of his adult life. Most of his economic writings are written in that context of Latin America and the United States, and more specifically, in the context of the ideology of "development" in the mid to late 20th century. He was not an "economist," but wrote more broadly on the consequences of economic realities in modern society.
Given the general trend of economic thought in Latin America during the mid to late 20th century I'd be highly skeptical of anything he said. But I will look him up. Two other books of his most directly related to economics are "Shadow Work," which is about industrialization's wage labor, and "Gender," which deals with the effect industrialization has had on our conception of gender.
yep, in terms of length and depth, it seems to be what i'm looking for right now. BTW, have you ever heard of a book called the Incredible Bread Machine? I read it a number of years ago, pretty interesting.
Yeah, Economics in One Lesson keeps getting mentioned as the greatest starting point for Austrian economics. I've got it in my queue, but you know how it is getting to stuff like that sometimes. I feel like I have heard of that book... I can't say that I can remember anything about it at the moment though. What's it about?
