MagiDragon
Mises.org is totally the place to go. Once you understand the non-aggression principle tons of things about government, politics, religion and economics will fall into place for you. The NAP helps to show why alms without love is morally worthless. Yes, the poor get money when the government gives it to them, but it takes an act of theft to do so, and is thus immoral. What this did for me was create a lot of questions about how to avoid breaking the commandment about stealing, which will led me to wonder how police, fire, courts and armed forces would work without a government. I'm still struggling a bit with courts, but I have no doubt left that fire and armed forces would exist in the absence of a government; there would just be a lot more insurance costs than we have today. (But they would be vastly smaller than the current governmental system.) Be forewarned that many of the commentors on that site are venomously anti-Catholic or anti-religion, but there are enough theists that we hold our own. Anyhow, good luck and peace, Joe

4588686
If you're interested in an accomplished economist who incorporates strong themes of moral philoosphy into his work but doesn't live in a world of make believe there is always Amartya Sen. Era Might
Who understands economics better than the Russians.
Not to be confused with the Dostoevsky character of the same name lol. Ivan Illich was actually German by birth, but lived in Latin America and the United States most of his adult life. Most of his economic writings are written in that context of Latin America and the United States, and more specifically, in the context of the ideology of "development" in the mid to late 20th century. He was not an "economist," but wrote more broadly on the consequences of economic realities in modern society. Over-education leads to ugliness, premature aging, and beard growth (although you may find that beneficial, for all I know)! I would hate for economics to overload your brain and cause you to go frightfully insane. Don John of Austria
Alright, anyone know anything about economics? I would like to do some informal studying this summer (ya know, cause i don't have anything else to do) and was wondering if any of you more educated types had any recommendations. Preferably stuff i could get on teh interwebz, as i'm not in a book buying situation, and i seem to lose everything i get from the library (yeah i know, its bad). Area's of interest from my very limited knowledge: Distributism, Austrian School, anything Catholic + Economics.... that is about all for now, thanks!!
Do you have access to a good library? I mean I've lost some really good books from the library, only to haveto pay for them and be pleasently suprised when I later ound them. Here is a good tactic... only get one book at a time.
