Ed Normile
Why would any sane person want to learn the Spanish language? Just for fun, maybe. I feel its a waste of effort and as a language its very un-PC, especially in these days of conservation. The language has many more letters to accomplish the same phrase than the English language, so its definitely wasteful on many levels, sure its a waste of letters, but it also wastes both papers and ink and bandwidth etc. Take for example the simple question , Which way is center street ? 22 letters and 1 punctuation mark, translated to Spanish it becomes , ¿Qué camino es la calle del centro? 27 letters and 2 punctuation marks! Thats five extra letters and an extra punctuation mark. What a waste, talk about saving the planet, think of all the extra paper a book or even a letter to the editor would waste using this language, think of the extra trees cut down to print all the extra letters in any work written in the Spanish language. Where is the cry from the environmentalists demanding the banning of this wasteful language? What about all the extra lead pencils the kiddies have to use learning to write this language, all the extra ink wasted by the average Spanish person writing a letter. Its no wonder these people talk so fast, they have to, just to have time to accomplish anything else. ed

Maximilianus
You know Ed, more than half of Spain probably had similar thoughts when they decided to make castillian the official laguage over all the other spanish laguages, only I don't think the punctuation and letter counts differed much. ¡Olé!
