I actually like Pawlenty. I had some dealings with him when he was with the state legislature. No pizazz but a smart guy.

I got mad last week during Meet the Press when Newt was on. Newt made the comment that more people were on foodstamps under Obama than any other president (which is true) and David Gregory accused him of being racist! what made me mad was the inference that african americans were the majority of foodstamp users. The reality is that whites use food stamps more.

I can't stand David Gregory. I miss Tim Russert.

seems likely nominees for the Republican ticket are dropping: Mitch Daniels, Donald Trump...who else?

who is left to run? who do you think is a good candidate?

i confess, i'm not excited about anyone, especially Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum or Tim Pawlenty. :idontknow:

anyone know much about Allen West?
Allen West is a retired army colonel now serving as a congressman from Florida. He is one of the few African-American Republicans in Congress.

Other than being an African-American Republican congressman, his main claim to fame is that when he was stationed in Iraq, he shot his handgun close to the head of an Iraqi he was interrogating in order to get information:

(excuse me as I step in after being away from the news for a weekend)

So is Daniels officially not running? Good. I've NOT been impressed with him AT ALL 99% that he's been in office. He did do well with the abortion funding stuff.

Of the bunch I like Pawlenty the best. Though I don't find him to be a great choice. And it's not just because I live in Minnesota. Not completely sure his is ready though.

Pawlenty balanced out a lot of deficits...by borrowing from education and health care funds which were short term solutions that led to higher property taxes and Moody's lowering the state's bond rating.

Pawlenty also vetoed a bill that would have made it easier for students to transfer credits within the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System after it passed both parts of the legislature with overwhelming support. Instead of reforming the system as the bill proposed, students who transfer from one 4-year institution to another in the system will not have 10% of their classes transfer over, while students transferring from 2 year institutions to 4 year institutions will lose an average of 1/3 of their credits in transfer. He said it was unncessary to reform it, because MSCUS is working on it internally.

His appointee of Commissioner of Human Services supposedly redacted 35 references to treatment programs in a progress report on a sex offender program that was 63 pages long, to better fit the then Governor's views. (Note: I'm saying an appointee did this, not at Pawlenty's behest.)

Foreign experience wise, he's golden compared to most of the candidates thus far. He's conducted trade talks in Canada, the Czech Republic, Indiaand Israel. He's visited Minnesota National Guard troops in Bosnia, Iraq, Kosovo, and Poland. Plus in the field of the national arena he's a bland and relatively unknown figure to the public, but decently known in political circles for chairing the National Governors Association one year, and it's Midwest equivalent for a term.

yes ron paul would save our country from bankruptcy, but that's almost stating a truism.
the biggest problem facing our country is deadlock, on how to manage our finacnes. the federal purse has always been an easy way out, a pig troph. but now the bill is coming due.
there's plenty of more moderate republicans who'd defiinitely save us... and there's plenty more democrats. (if you're looking to do it wihtout increasing taxes, there's probably not as many democrats, but there's surely plenty.
most sane dictators wouldn't let the country top down, but let a democracy experiment happen, and... it could happen.
plus, if you look at the national debt, it started only getting out of hand starting with reagan, started dropping with clinton, and continued its exponential climb yet again. and obama is cutting spending at unprecedented levels, as far as nonentitlement spending goes. that'd probably put him with clinton. i'd have to look at the numbers more closely.
republicans are not immune (and i'd argue, if not the biggest culprits here. ) to criticism

pawlenty and romney aren't terrible.

huntsman has much promise, albeit might be a wee bit ahead of his time... needs a clearer record.

while obama isn't iwith clinton... the problem is entitlement spending, the budget is probably the biggest issue we have. we need a visionary, to do what obama did with healthcare, with the budget.
obama may not have the balls.
obama's served his prupose (if one were to go along with that) and someone else may have to rise to the occasion.
