Any Eastern Catholics On This Forum?

Are there any Eastern Catholics on this forum? I attend an Ukrainian Greek Catholic parish pretty regularly, although I am a Latin. I alternate between the Traditional Latin Mass, the Divine Liturgy, and a reverent Novus Ordo said by Opus Dei priests.

I actually prefer the Divine Liturgy to the Traditional Latin Mass. The Byzantine Tradition is simply majestic.

I'm another Latin Catholic who likes to attend the Divine Liturgy. I even spent some time in Ukraine, living the daily Ukrainian-Greek Catholic liturgical schedule. While it's a beautiful tradition, and reminds me of my time there, I still prefer our Mass above all else - I guess I'm where I belong :like:

I also lived in L'viv for about 6 months. The only reason I wouldn't become an Eastern Catholic is that they have stricter rules for publishing stuff. This is one of my apostolates (spreading good Catholic books from pre-Vatican II times): http://www.scribd.com/ExtraEcclesiamNullaSalus

If you look at their Canon Law and particular law you even need your Bishop's permission to publish online. It's really strict. I have also seen in some parishes how the custom is to have the pastor's blessing for EVERYTHING. It is good to do things with spiritual discernment and advice but personally I think it kills a lot of lay initiative. I think the laity need a bit of freedom as long as what they are doing is in line with the teachings of the Church.

But nonetheless you can fully participate in their Church even if you are not an EC, you just cannot get married, have your kids baptized and confirmed, or be buried out of there.

P.S. I think that tonight's episode of Fr. Benedict on EWTN is supposed to be about Eastern Catholics - specifically, a Byzantine (Ruthenian) priest being the guest. Should be interesting and give those who don't know much about Eastern Christianity something to think and pray about...

Воістину воскрес!

Apparently last year they had a good special about BLESSED VASYL VELYCHKOVSKY,C.Ss.R. I would love to get a DVD of that special. I don't have cable so they only way I can watch EWTN is online, which is kind of a hassle.

I was also in L'viv. Were you affiliated with the UCU?

I don't think I saw that, but there was a video about a priest in the Ukraine awhile ago. Beautiful footage of the Divine Liturgy.

There's actually a plethora of good videos of chant and liturgy from the Eastern Churches on youtube.

I was going to be taking Eastern Rite Canon Law this summer, but my doctor said no more classes until Fall.

Orthodox chica in training here. Not Catholic, but I do divine liturgy. Interestingly, most people seem to cross themselves like this, :amen: , but then I learned that from the Armenian OOs, not the EOs.

You mean the Armenian Orthodox cross themselves like Latin Catholics? Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding you...

I think I heard the Paschal greeting in Armenian for the first time this past Sunday :)

Yeah, at least some do cross themselves like that. Right hand: head/chest/L/R

Would you happen to be in the Chicago area? The reason I ask is that on the near NW side is Ukrainian Village (with various Ukranian Catholic churches) and St. Mary of the Angels, an Opus Dei parish.

 • 3 months later...

Byz Cath here! Migrated to Byz rite from Roman years ago but due to "circumstances" (read: Providence) resurfaced in the Roman rite in 2008. Fully formed in both rites, in the spiritualities of both the Western and the Eastern (Ortho & Eastern Cath) Christian Churches, breathing deeply with both lungs.
