ThomasPeter Posted April 24, 2004 Share Posted April 24, 2004 is a crucifix needed in a Catholic church? in the church at Holy Cross college in south bend, there is a nice cross behing the alter, but no crucifix. at the back of te church (where u enter facing the alter) there is a small crucifix, but its not by the alter or in an easly seen place. i heard that there shoudl be a crucifix in a church, but i dont know. thanks! tom Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There is also to be a cross, [b]with the figure of Christ crucified upon it,[/b] either on the altar or near it, where it is clearly visible to the assembled congregation. It is appropriate that such a cross, which calls to mind for the faithful the saving Passion of the Lord, remain near the altar even outside of liturgical celebrations.
