MithLuin
The fact this happened in a heavy blue state does not surprise me. Welcome to the United States of Entitlements.
Well, it's a federal program, so the rules are the same nationwide. Unless, you're saying that someone who would want to stay on foodstamps while having gobs of money in the bank is indicative of the inhabitants of a blue state. But even then, the blue/red is almost universally based on urban/rural, so within blue states there's lots of swaths of red and vice versa. Tony
He will probably be taxed about 40-50% of his winnings, so in the long run he's paying more than he's getting paid in food stamps. Much more. Tazpayers shouldn't be too upset about this. If we were talking tax exemption, that would be a problem. CatherineM
Lobby winnings are tax free in Canada. Just leaves more money for the winners to blow as quickly as possible.
Ash Wednesday
http://www.mlive.com/news/bay-city/index.ssf/2011/05/auburn_man_fielding_criticism.html The guy sounds kind of like my dad. Very cheap. No matter how much the bank statement says, even if he won the lottery he would still be worried that there would never be enough money. Quite a lot of it went to taxes, he built a house and invested the money so he's not exactly blowing it on a bunch of useless junk. When he said "now everybody wants a piece of me" it sounds to me like he's paranoid and afraid of being broke again. Cheap and stingy as he comes across, I don't know how much I hold it against this guy as much as I do the state for allowing these kinds of abuses to happen in the first place. We vote for people who then tell us what to do, and they no longer have to obey the law in exercising their "representation."
beaver dam anarchists
I am better than them. Vote for me in the next presidential election.
I will. Give me power that I can abuse and exploit for my own benefits and I will vote for you multiple times.
