Debra Little
I posted an article on this a few months back. It's back in the news. Wonder if they will give me their love bus Friday night. No German Chocholate cake with the gooey frosting for me on my birthday this year. (my b-day is the 21st - please send your presents and money you were going to get me a day early.) That is evident by the things one sees happening around the world. That doesn't mean I believe the end is here. Only the Father knows when that is. Ice_nine
In all seriousness we are talking about cult members and it's kind of a sad thing. People had given up their jobs and radically altered their lives for a lie and now they're probably reeling from that. It's easy to think that you could never be brainwashed but we all have weaknesses and people willing to exploit them. I'm not chastising anyone for making jokes cause believe me I've been throwing out lol statuses with the best of 'em. But isn't it kinda sad though?
Too me, the sad part is that the old man probably believed it all himself. Don't forget people that faith is a gift. I was raised an agnostic and truly believed that Christians were crazy. God gave me the gift of faith and brought me to the Catholic Church - nothing I did made this possible - I resisted it for years and had to overcome family prejedice as well to come 'home'. I pray for anyone who does not know the truth and feel a great compassion for them. All I have to do is look at my own family who have not been graced with faith -- all very lovely, kind and generous people, who probably 'deserve' it much more than I do. So I only feel sorry for anyone who believes wholeheartedly in something else - or in nothing, because they think they are right!! Mistaken they are, yes, but they don't choose to be mistaken. I have laughed at the whole rapture thing because it does seem so ludicrous - but in reality it isn't ludicrous to those who believe in it sincerely. And it is very sad indeed. the171
I believe it was St. Alphonsus Ligouri who was playing chess one day and was asked what he would do if he knew the world was going to end that day. He said "I would continue playing chess". Some might see that as presumptuous but it is probably more a total trust in God. The reality is I like you would probably go to confession. Yes, spend the day with your husband.
St. Dominic Savio and it was soccer.one of our youngest saints. Salesian saint.
Yes it is sad and sheds much light on the following: Eph.4 1. [14] so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful wiles. Without the Catholic Church I a afraid protestants in fact are the epidomy of this passage. When they hear an explanation that seems right they follow after it. This is the human condition: Prov.18 1. [17] He who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.
penguin31
The more I hear and read, the more genuine pity I have for the folks who've bought into this. I don't even think it was cultism, so much as a genuine desire to be with Him, in combination with a desire to escape the problems and realities of the world in which we all live. Even Camping himself I pity. The more I read it just sounds like he just had one of your typical Protestant misunderstandings of the nature of Scripture. The 2nd Epistle of Peter and Genesis aren't supposed to have secret correlations deducible only by multiple levels of flawed mathematics. More than likely, it was his mind trying to fulfill his desire to be with Him by giving him hope through false evidence. That said, the real harm from all of this is going to be the scores of people who will use this only as a further indictment of "those crazy Christians", staining their heart with bias against His Truth. thessalonian
like you have the authority to tell God what to do lol.
Surely you jest.
i didn't think Catholics believed in the Rapture. that's the fundamentalists.
We should be a little careful here. Rapture in itself is really bodily assumption in to heaven. At the end of time the Church believes that bodies and souls will be reunited and taken in to heaven. So rapture is okay though it is not a term the Church uses. What we are talking about really is pre-trib rapture. The Church says that those who are in the Church at the time will go through the tribulation. There is also post trib and mid trib rapture. This gets clouded up in millenialism as well.
