You Know You Go To Catholic School When...

1) You get invited to a function which includes:
- a lecture on global warming, delivered by a female minister from the United Church
- a smudge ceremony performed by the Native American religious community
- prayers by the local Muslim Imams
- and unspecified stuff (meditation?) from the Buddhist community

2) Your sibling is given a SexEd booklet that promotes birth control, among other stuff

So...I've been going to my Catholic High School for four years, yet most of the time I don't feel like I go to one. The first one I thought was just a bit odd, but then my school is being into environment stuff, as well as multi cultural involvement, so I guess those aren't necessarily bad things. The second point made me kind of mad.

So, anyone else have stories from Catholic School (then and now), whether funny, heartwarming, or not so nice?

You hated when the CCD kids used your classrooms, cuz they went through your stuff in your desk.

You spend more time celebrating MLK day than any of the Church feast days.

You had a Mass in rememberance of JPII and when you were asked to talk about seeing him, your teacher really wanted you to emphasize the fact that he was against the war, and ignore that he was anti-birth control...

Meteor - I actually went into a tirade on my test for health class when we learned about reproduction/birth control/abstinence, because abstinence was given all of 3 seconds and birth control was given several class periods. (Although, the freaky slide show about STDs could probably count for the abstinence portion).

It would be nice if they would send apostolic visitations to the schools when they get done with the nuns.

My school was a home school.
I left "real school" when I was seven.
So, I cannot really relate. I cringe thinking about it, though.

Shoulda been born in the South. I went to public school all my life and we STILL had abstinence-only sexual education. :like:

Good for you! lol :clapping:

Yeah, I have only one or two teachers who will dare to talk about abstinence

True indeed. I had a friend who, when taught about birth control, asked her teacher very politely, "Isn't birth control against Church teaching?" Her reply was a "we are not discussing that right now" and a nasty look.

My teacher at the same school often skipped religion class, which was mostly about feelings anyway.

The students there hung posters for very liberal, pro-abortion candidates on the walls.

The altar was used to give student council speeches.

Thankfully, we both left that school and are now in Catholic home school program.
