I came across this trailer of an upcoming movie about St. Josemaria Escriva. Thought it might be worth sharing:

Hrmmmmmm. The trailer looks so amesome but I am sooo skeptical. A glossy, high quality motion picture highlighting the early history of the founder of what is possibly the Church's most unjustly misunderstood religious order -- by the director of The Mission? To be released the day of the beatification of John Paul II? Where's the catch?

Behind the scenes trailer:

Early overview of the plot:
The advantage of having an agnostic write and direct this film is that the message of the film is not tainted for or against the Catholic agenda, said Lauer. This is a real story about real kinds of people set in a real circumstance. It holds personal messages about love, betrayal, and redemption
http://live.hollywoo...?p=5917#respond

My first thought was "They're going to portray him as a romantic fascist who turned to brainwashing his spiritual children into blind loyalty and fanatical obedience after his dreams of a perfect Imperial Spain were dashed by the Civil War"

After reading the review I'm willing to bet that the serious catch is going to be the presentation of Saint Escriva's essential message as a watered-down paen amounting to "keep hope alive!" and "love will keep us together" with no mention of Jesus Christ, supernatural virtue or true redemptive grace in sight. I'm not sure which would be preferable, since the former would be easier to disprove while the latter is simply insidious.

Call me Thomas :doubter:

ETA: having said all that, I may still be tempted to watch this in the theaters if the reviews are decent.

I posted about this some time last year.
Apparently the film is going to be mainly fictional.

MissScripture

The postulants in Nashville got to see it in the theatre (a benefactor paid for them to go). My sister said it was really good, but really intense.
