BigJon16
I am a Living Historian, or more commonly, a reenactor. Ive had an idea about portraying a Jesuit missionary in the 1750's or a Protestant chaplain it 1770's. But my question is, that, is it against Church law to portray such persona's if I am not Ordained or have not made any Vows in a religious order? I know the Protastant persona could be a little "scetchy" because i'd be portraying a Protestant, but, since during era I would be portraying him, it was very uncommon to find Catholics in my area. I was told by someone who portrays a Protastant chaplain, that it is OK because the portrayal would be for historical and educational perposes only, but I wanted to ask someone that knows a thing or two about Church law before I proceed. I would be portraying the Jesuit missionarie with a group of buddies who protray a group of French Allied Native Americans during the French and Indian War. [/quote] I have never read a rule about not playing a cleric unless you are a cleric. There have been lots of movies made where someone plays a priest, and I don't recall that the church objected to that. I do remember there was some concern about the last rites scene in the movie the Exorcist because the actor performing the rite was in fact a real priest. I think that if it is okay to portray Jesus in a movie or play, it's okay to play a Jesuit.
