Wikitiki
So forgive me if this is a frequently/easily-answered question (maybe I'm just not looking hard enough). But I want to get enrolled in the Brown Scapular, and I'm not entirely positive on how to go about it. Would it be appropriate to come up to my priest after Mass and ask him, or should I make an appointment/try to find him at a different time? Should I bring a printout of the formula? If so, I've seen both a short and a long form; which would be appropriate? I've tried to look for answers, and all I've found is that people have had problems (like priests shrugging people off or even refusing). I'm sort of a nervous person by nature, so it would be nice if I could have some answers. One of our priests is VERY nice, and hopefully he'll be there tomorrow, but if not, I'm afraid I'll chicken out if I'm not fully prepared.
MithLuin
If you catch him after mass, you may want to just ask him if he could enroll you, and then set up another time to do it. If he says, oh, no, now is fine....then you're good, but if he's too busy right then, he can still do it later without feeling rushed. Sometimes it's hard to get a moment with your parish priest, because he is so very busy. If that doesn't work, find your nearest group of Carmelites. I'm sure they'd be happy to do that for you! Once you're enrolled once, you're good. Even if you stop wearing the scapular and go back to it, or get a new one, you don't have to be re-enrolled. So, it's a one time deal and a little extra effort to get it done right can't hurt!
AudreyGrace
I was enrolled when I was a young girl, and my mom set it all up, so I can't really help too much. If possible, I'd assume it's best to ask your priest after Mass for an appointment. Good luck and congrats!
Nihil Obstat
If you're nervous, you could try emailing the priest during the week and ask if he'd like to enroll you after the next Sunday's Mass.
This is what I did! Easy peasy. And I can sympathize with being nervous, Wikitiki, I hate feeling as though I'm bothering the priest. In reality, my parish priest was thrilled to enroll me and the whole experience was not only painless, it was amesome. Best of luck! BramletAbercrombie
I've been carrying around a scapular for a couple of months now, hoping to find time after a daily mass to talk to a priest about it. No luck as of yet. But soon, I hope!
