Jaime
So we as Catholics believe that Osama bin Laden has now clearly seen the full weight and repercussions of his actions on earth. We also know that he has was killed on the day we celebrate the Divine Mercy of Christ. While it is entirely possible that he is consigned to hell, it is also entirely possible that he was embraced by the infinite mercy of God and is now or will eventually be a saint in heaven. What would you think if he became a saint that we could pray to to intercede for us?
Brother Adam
I would think it would be reasonable to imagine he would be in purgatory if indeed he repented and was saved.
TeresaBenedicta
I was thinking about this last night as I went to bed... I would rejoice heartily if I found out that Osama Bin Laden was in heaven. Why? Because I would know without a shadow of a doubt that he repented before his death... and from the greatest sinners come the greatest saints. God's mercy is great! But mercy is a two-way street. What I mean is that part of mercy is man's repentance, true sorrow for his sins. If Osama repented of his sins and bathed himself in the great mercy that God offers to all of us... Praise God! When I pray that God has mercy on Osama, which I do pray, I do not pray that He ignores or brushes aside all that Osama has done and the evil he has wrought. I pray that he was given the graces he needed and that he responded to those graces, and met God face to face with a repentant heart.
socalscout
I would like to believe there is always hope because that day will come for us all. I was told young that the Church never condemns and we do not know who is in Hell just a pretty good idea of a few who went to Heaven.
Sarah147
I surely hope for everyone to make it to Heaven. If he made it, it would give me even more trust in God's mercy toward me.

AudreyGrace
I voted "I would not care", simply because I'm pretty sure Osama will be the last thing on my mind when I get to heaven. I'll probably be more like WHERE'S JESUS!? On earth, I don't care where he is right now. I can never know for sure, so I'm not gonna bother thinking about it. All we can do is pray for his soul like we would for anyone who passed away.
MithLuin
I suspect that everyone will be surprised by at least someone who winds up in heaven. I have no idea about the state of bin Laden's soul at his death, so I cannot predict. However, the man did preach a lot of hatred during his life, so if he did not repent prior to his death....well....chances are not good. God will not 'let in' anyone who has not been transformed. So, should I get to heaven, I will not be afraid of meeting anyone there. As Catholics, we are permitted to pray for the dead. I remember praying for the culprits on 9/11. I can ask for mercy, being confident that God will not grant it unless it is...well, proper...that he do so. I know who is judge of our human lives, and I trust Him. Even should he condemn me....I trust Him. Jesus, I trust in You!

RezaMikhaeil
What if he had been baptized yesterday? (just a hypothetical)
He would be considered to have been baptised with his own blood, such as the man on the cross next to Christ that repented and was saved as Christ said, "today you will be with me in paradise". (just a hypothetical)
not sure the baptism thing is relevant... how long does it take someone to fall into mortal sin? If we can hypothetically argue he was baptized, can we not further hypotheticalize (given what we kinda solidly know of him), that he fell into mortal sin the instant after he was baptized, or the instant before he died? We can't. We can't read hearts. Baptism is grace, not magic. I've missed you, jaime (the artist formerly known as hot stuff) (the artist formerly known as hot stuff). CatherineM
I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's up to God and not me. I'm glad that the Vatican came out today saying that we shouldn't be celebrating his death.
