Chamomile
God have mercy on us all
Amen From the Vatican spokesperson, Fr. Lombardi:
Osama bin Laden, as we all know, bore the most serious responsibility for spreading divisions and hatred among populations, causing the deaths of innumerable people, and manipulating religions for this purpose. In the face of a man's death, a Christian never rejoices, but reflects on the serious responsibilities of each person before God and before men, and hopes and works so that every event may be the occasion for the further growth of peace and not of hatred.

Maggyie
No, no absolutely not. Quite possibly my greatest fear, period. Pray, pray, pray especially through Our Lady's intercession that something like this doesn't really happen!!! Btw, I see his name spelled as "Usama" now -- when and why was that changed from "Osama"?
There are different usages - Usama produces a pronunciation that is actually closer to the original. It's similar to the Beijing vs Peking thing, although nowadays most news organizations use Beijing. There really is no P or B in the name of China's capital city. rkwright
Why would they dump his body that fast? I have no clue what to think other than that he is apparently dead. I suppose if rumors of his death are exaggerated we'll hear about it soon from AQ.
I don't get this either. You know t here are going to be all kinds of conspiracy theories now... Didn't Obama learn with the whole birther issue? I mean we held on to Sadam's sons and showed the world - why did we dump the #1 most hunted man in the world????
From what is said he was buried so quickly because of Islamic law about the dead. I don't know what that law is but apparantly they must be buried within a certain time. Also they did not want to have a grave site for him to incite others to rally or other events that could happen at a grave site. They want to avoid it being a symbol for a martyr. RezaMikhaeil
According to the Guardian, Fox News, etc. his body was buried at sea. This is in accordance with Islamic Law that dictates a Muslim is to be buried immediately after his/her death. I find it troubling myself, for I don't consider him to be a true Muslim, he actually committed alot of blasphemy within that religion. It will also cast doubts upon weather he truly was captured or weather it was the government faking it in order to boost their support for the various wars. Morally, I agree with Fr. Lombardi. Christians should not be delightful, if you would, at any mans death. When Jesus said, "love your neighbor as yourself", "pray for your enemies", I don't think that he had dancing in the street, in a state of jubilee, in mind but maybe that's just me. BG45
Mr. Bin Laden's body was buried at sea, in order to be in accordance with Islamic tradition that burial take place within 24 hours, according to a person familiar with the situation. The Saudis declined a U.S. offer to take the body, this person said. - The Wall Street Journal.
Bin Laden's Saudi citizenship had been revoked years ago. His family had disowned him as well. And I imagine our government would care, because it shows a certain conduct with our enemies that we've been sadly lacking in recent years, and that is abiding by treaties. specifically Article 15 of the First Geneva Convention which this administration has said applies to the War on Terror.
I'll celebrate the fact that this vile murderer and enemy of my country has been killed and can thus do no more evil in this world. In the extremely unlikely event that he had a miraculous total conversion and redemption at the moment of his death, we should rejoice in God's mercy. If not, then his eternal punishment in hell is an act of God's justice, and I'll rejoice in God's justice. In any case, all glory and honor be to God. I'll leave others to mourn and whine about the death of that murdering scumbag.
Man made religions have no true form. To say otherwise would be downright Unecumenical. Edited May 2, 2011 by Socrates
