Laudate_Dominum
It never occurred to us that the commander-in-chief of the American forces [Bush] would leave 50,000 citizens in the two towers to face those horrors alone at a time when they most needed him because he thought listening to a child discussing her goat and its ramming was more important than the planes and their ramming of the skyscrapers. This had given us three times the time needed to carry out the operations, thanks be to God ...
What the heck is that? haha. Anyway, this statement from Bin Laden was a trip and I can't believe it was so long ago! Geez time flies.
Laudate_Dominum
"A senior Al-Qaeda commander claimed that the terrorist group has hidden a nuclear bomb in Europe which will be detonated if Bin-Laden is ever caught or assassinated. But the fact that the time frame between the two events (the writing of the article and the realization of what has happened) frightens me all the more. 4588686
Who knows but I doubt it. It's not easy to pull off a large scale attack and they'd need to top 9/11 to get the psychological imact they're looking for with a retailatory attack. That's not easy to pull off. These men would need to be in place, always ready to start the attack, for years on end. It's possible and I've heard it on the news but it seems intuitively unlikely. Also, a guy from RAND dismissed the idea, saying simply that when AQ has the chance to pull off a serious attack, they go for it, they don't hold big things in reserve. Although there is no doubt that if AQ is able to pull off an attack in the furutre, they will cite revenge for OBL as a motive.
Nihil Obstat
I find it unlikely that there are any nuclear-capable terrorist groups at the moment, though obviously I don't study this in my spare time or as part of my degree.
I agree. But really, who knows. I remember there was a big deal after Beslan the Russians announced that there were securing their nuclear facilities near the Cacausus. Of course everyone kind of went, "ummm....you mean you HAVEN'T had them secured before now?". I'm in the same boat as you. I have no experience in world wide terrorist networks either but I also find it unlikely. I really don't see them keeping a nuclear bomb of any kind in play for years at a time. If they have anything it would probably be a dirty bomb which, while aweful, would hardly constitute a nuclear hellstorm. Supposedly, the Basayev got a hold of a dirty bomb and planted it in Moscow but decided against detonating it. So it wouldn;t be absoluelty unheard of. Although I would be suprised if the Russians just made that story up for whatever reason.

Btw, I see his name spelled as "Usama" now -- when and why was that changed from "Osama"?
Selah
I honestly feel nothing. The man is dead. But things aren't over. They'll never be over. You can't "win" a war on terror because terrorism is something that has existed from the very beginning, and will continue to exist until the end. It's human nature. It's good he can no longer hurt anyone, but there are more just like him. Edited May 2, 2011 by Selah
Brother Adam
Why would they dump his body that fast? I have no clue what to think other than that he is apparently dead. I suppose if rumors of his death are exaggerated we'll hear about it soon from AQ.
