rhetoricfemme
A friend of mine posted this prayer request on Facebook, and I'd like to pass it on. Please pray for this little boy. Thank you! Noah once announced to his mom and me "I matter" We smiled with him and replied "more than you know" Noah is a healthy active and intelligent 6 year old boy. He plays in an indoor soccer league. Noah enjoys swimming and karate classes. He is a grade 1 student at St. Mary’s of the Angels School. He is the guardian and best friend of his little sister. He is kind hearted and loves to laugh. He is so energetic and full of life. He has an army of friends.... ............Noah is the best son we could ever have wished for. On the morning of January 9, 2011 our lives changed. Our healthy very active six year old boy became very sick. It came without cause or warning. Noah developed Idiopathic Refractory Status Epilepticus. It is very rare and very hard to understand. Idiopathic is an adjective used primarily in medicine meaning arising spontaneously or from an obscure or unknown cause. Refractory is an adjective that means, hard or impossible to manage; stubbornly disobedient; resisting ordinary methods of treatment. Status Epilepticus is a life threatening condition in which the brain is in a state of persistent seizue. Definitions vary, but traditionally it is defined as one continuous unremitting seizure lasting longer than 30 minutes, or recurrent seizures without regaining consciousness between seizures for greater than 30 minutes. It is always considered a medical emergency. Today is May, 2011 and Noah is still at Sick Kids Hospital Critical Care Unit in Toronto and he is still seizing. Noah has been poked and prodded. He has been looked over by every doctor in every department. Drained of blood, given new blood on steroids had chemotherapy ,fed a ketogenic diet, antibiotics- every kind, anti consultant cocktails enough to drown an elephant. My God, he has been on a drug induced coma and now he is in a seizure induced coma. Noah went to bed On January 8, 2011 a healthy happy kid. He has not woken up. There is no diagnosis and no treatment has worked so far. The doctors have always told us to expect the worse. We pray for the best. His Mom, little sister and I miss him so much. His mother is constantly at bed side and I am there as often as I can be. When I’m not at the hospital I’m with our 3 year old daughter. She is asking what’s taking so long for Noah to get better. I don’t know what to tell her. I have not returned to work. We are all still in shock and I can not even try to explain the stress, anxiety and helplessness we feel. On April 5,2011 Noah underwent surgery and received a Vegus Nerve Stimulator implant. It sometimes has success in cases like Noah’s. We are praying that this will be his MIRACLE. This is a long, long road with many speed bumps, and large pot holes. The Good Lord Jesus is our Navigator. Our ultimate goal is to bring Noah home. This will involve a lot of training for his mother and me to be able to care for him. Noah will need a full time nurse or care giver especially if he comes home on a ventilator. We will also have to renovate our house to accommodate Noah. We need to install ramps or lifts, special washroom and whatever else he needs. The government will assist in some of what Noah needs but not all of it. We may not even qualify for most of it. We are a family of four. My wife is a full time mom and I work crazy hours. We were not prepared to care for our previously healthy son who is now suddenly very ill. God willing we will be. Please pray with us! All faiths are welcome to pray with us. Pray for Noah's brain, lungs and total overall healing. Pray for the seizures to stop and for Noah to wake up and to have full use of all his senses, organs and limbs. Pray for Noah to return to the way he was before he got sick. Send lots of positive energy and the light of Jesus. There is strength in numbers and if we all pray together God will grant Noah the Miracle he needs. We truly believe this. Noah matters as all God’s children matter.
