Nihil Obstat
Members of the British royal family can't marry Catholics. An act passed in 1701 (the 1701 Act of Settlement) won't allow them to become Catholic or marry someone Catholic. My pastor says Anglicans really, really want to be Catholic, but are just 500 years out of practice.
They can (and have), but if they do they must renounce their place in succession. Sarah147
I was concerned when the ministor talked about the judgement day when all the secrets in their heart will be revealed, and said that if they have an impediment to marrying, please confess it. I hope they confessed about living together and anything else that might have happened. Does anyone know if they confess to a ministor or directly to God?
i dont think living together is an impediment to marriage. Its a last-chance opportunity to admit "err, he's my cousin" or "oops, I actually have some other living husband". I have to admit, the way he talked about judgment day did send a shiver down my spine. The Anglican Communion in general and Church of England in particular tend to be all over the place re:sacramental confession. High church/low church etc. have different takes about its necessity and benefits.

I'm thinking that cohabiting is a sin, possibly mortal, and that you can't marry in mortal sin? But that's Catholicism...

Its sacrilegious, but the sacrament still "works." On the other hand, if you have some other spouse tucked away in other country, it doesn't matter how many times you get a priest to pronounce you man and wife, it won't "stick" fyi y'all: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge has a different dress for her reception: Edited April 29, 2011 by Lilllabettt

Guests were given a taste of nostalgia as the confectionery delight was offered as an alternative to the official wedding cake by Fiona Cairns.
