I ended up watching. My friend invited me round for a bank holiday brunch. How could I resist? I felt pretty cynical nonetheless, tbh, but the whole spectacle finally hooked me and pulled me in. I especially liked the scenes at the end, with the vast crowd of people walking peaceably and calmly down the Mall, flags waving and all grinning and happy-looking, once the wedding was done.

My friend and I have decided to go to the Abbey tomorrow to see the trees. They were cool.

Anyway. I repeat my wish that they have a long and happy marriage. That's what really matters.

(And isn't Camilla still Catholic? The Duchess of Kent is, but I don't know if she was there...)

Parker Bowles' children were raised in their father's Roman Catholic faith, although both were married in the Church of England.

I didn't just mean the Church, but the high Anglican faith in general is very close to Catholicism. Well, it was Catholic before the King changed things...

Henry VIII still considered himself Catholic to his dying day, from what I've read.

David Beckham was carrying a top hat, but I don't see any pictures of him actually wearing it lol. Probably didn't want to get caught on camera wearing a top hat.

I ended up watching the ceremony. Too bad they arent Catholic. Too bad they lived together first. On the shallow end of things I liked her dress, the horses, carriages, hats, etc.

If the whole royal family and name is all just a public figure thing, why do they keep it going? Why keep "king" "queen" "prince" "princess" "duke" "duchess" and so forth.

Do the high Anglicans go to confession to a minister?

The American president is head of state and head of government. So hes involved in the nitty gritty of politics. But when he enters a room, everyone stands up. Its considered bad form to interrupt him. When people wonder if a candidate is "presidential" enough, they're really asking if he's "regal" and "dignified" the way a King should be.

The British don't have that combo, they separate it. The tradition is to heckle the Prime Minister. The Queen is the head of state and gets the respect. Most societies need "transcendent" leadership at some level. Thats what the monarchy does - provides consistency, identity, tradition. When times are good there doesn't seem much need for that, but when stuff hits the fan it can determine the course of future events. Like, during the Battle of Britain- they lost 20 thousand civillians in like 6 months. So, imagine September 11th every other week.

Speaking of royal weddings I kinda like this more, and today is the feast of St Catherine of Siena after all

Just heard on the news that the wedding invitation said that women were required to wear hats.
Yes!!!! Kicking it old school.

I used to hate hats until I found the kind that work for my face/head (wide brim or band style)

Why did us chicks give up this great accessory?
"Now we come to the most pressing problem of this time. Shall you or shall you not wear a hat? I think that in town you cannot be really dressed without a hat. It is really the completion of your outfit and in another way, it is very often the best way to show your personality. It easier to express yourself sometimes with your hat than it is with your clothes. A hat can make you gay, serious, dignified, happy - or sometimes ugly, if you don't choose it well! A hat is the quintessence of femininity ..."
- A Little Dictionary of Fashion by Christian Dior

Yeah I was like :o when they mentioned her. Maybe they will read some of what she has to say on the Eucharist and come to where they can be truly fed.

"O inestimable charity! Even as You, true God and true Man, gave Yourself entirely to us, so also You left Yourself entirely for us, to be our food, so that during our earthly pilgrimage we would not faint with weariness, but would be strengthened by You, our celestial Bread. O man, what has your God left you? He has left you Himself, wholly God and wholly Man, concealed under the whiteness of bread."

Members of the British royal family can't marry Catholics. An act passed in 1701 (the 1701 Act of Settlement) won't allow them to become Catholic or marry someone Catholic.

My pastor says Anglicans really, really want to be Catholic, but are just 500 years out of practice.
