Well, I got up bright and early before the sun was even out and watched the Royal Wedding, starting about one hour into the programming. This was right before they showed Prince William arriving in the car, and later Kate. I had English tea with English muffins w/English jam (marmalade and ginger). (The store didn't have crumpets in stock, so I settled for the muffins.)

It was quite beautiful! I noticed they married in a high Anglican Church, which seemed very similar to the Catholic Church. I thought it was wonderful for all those people, especially the celebrities, to hear about Jesus and the Bible.

I truly hope that William and Harry will be happy. I believe that if William is anything like Princess Diana, he'll be a wonderful, loving Father. It seemed that William and Kate were all smiles and very happy today.

I thought her wedding gown was beautiful but could have done without the dropping neck to her breast bone! Eeek. Prince William and Prince Harry looked charming in their military uniforms.

Many of the guests outfits were beautiful to see, and many of the hats were just plain strange!

I was quite surprised at how many people came to watch in the streets and all the police lined up (they said like six-thousand police!)

I may be posting more later, I have to do some work right now...

It should - Westminster Abbey was Catholic for many years. It made me sad when I was there, to think of the Eucharist not being present there now. (to clarify, I was there in December, not now)
I don't know, I rather like hats. For women to wear them nowadays is unusual and just seems rather ... dignified, I guess.

I'm not against all hats, just hats in church. The whole point of women covering their head in church is humility. An uncovered head is probably better than a hat that brings vain attention to yourself.

But I endorse hats (within reason) outside of church. Here I am just last week in my favorite hat:

I didn't watch any of it, but I was just looking at some pictures online. I noticed the Queen's hat (although Camilla's hat was even more noticeable). There's something...unbecoming to me about women wearing hats in church. Hats are signs of fashion, not humility. I think veils are more appropriate in a church.

oh come on, seriously?!

St. Paul doesn't talk about veiling, he talks about covering. Aloysius had a post on this in the TL phorum awhile back.

St. Paul also says: "In like manner women also in decent apparel: adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with plaited hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly attire, but as it becometh women professing godliness, with good works" (1Timothy 2:9-10). My point is that the whole purpose of covering your head is humility. I don't think fancy hats achieve that any more than a Yankees hat would. Save your fancy hat for outside of church. If you're going to cover your head, cover it humbly. If it's not going to be humble, it's probably better to just not cover your head at all.

But anyway, I didn't bring up their hats to get into a debate about hats. It's just what I noticed when looking at the wedding pictures.

Lilllabettt

Points:

1. Her dress is almost exactly what my sister wanted only without the v-neck. Same drop veil too, a la Grace Kelly:

2. I wear hats all the time, vintage and not, in public places whether in church or not. I like them. I thought most of the hats were perfectly appropriate. The only one that had me going was Princess Beatrice:

3. HRH was supposed to fall in love with me. Then there would be a tremendous struggle between his duty to the throne and my duty to God; since both of us are immovably devoted, things end in heartbreak. But afterward, finding that he can't live w/o me, HRH gives an impassioned speech to Parliament, imploring them to change the law, public opinion swells, and against all odds and the opposition of the Queen, they do. Film ends with spectacular Catholic wedding. Cue on-screen post scripts informing that 1. the Queen and the whole Anglican institution, impressed by my heroic virtue, eventually converted 2. I became the 1st Catholic queen of england since Mary

See? Wasn't that more of an interesting story than the "commoner" angle? And even more so, since I was in it.

I didn't just mean the Church, but the high Anglican faith in general is very close to Catholicism. Well, it was Catholic before the King changed things...

That THING in particular is the one that I thought was crazy. There were also some satelite-looking hats that were out there.
