It appears to show a little too much of her private area and her neck/chest. It also has strange pointy things on the cups rather than rounded. Strange. I've read that the designers point of making drop necks is to bring mens eyes to the area that should be guarded. It really isn't necessary to show all of that, and in my opinion, is not as modest as it ought to be, especially with a Ministor looking at her and standing in God's house, making vows to God and spouse.

I also don't care for the common sleeveless or armless wedding gowns these days. It's ridiculous.

Meh. I don't think anybody was staring at her chest.

Some gowns have such a low neckline the women need to be taped up to prevent a wardrobe malfunction. To me an immodest neckline is one that shows cleavage. In all these photos the Princess is covered. Actually, the "sweetheart" neckline she has for the fabric underneath the lace is actually more modest than the typical ubiquitous strapless gown because the design brings the fabric higher.

Everyone has different standards I guess. I have worn a tube top with a cardigan sweater over it that could be this low. Some people say skirts have to be below the knee to be modest. I used to think so. But now I wear suit skirts, and they usually hit at the knee or just above ... and its fine. It doesn't look immodest, just professional.

Personally I think she did a good job of making a traditional look appear modern and attractive instead of frumpy.

Her neckline shows nothing of her chest and absolutely no cleavage. Considering the temperature of Britain on a early spring morning AND the fact she alone of all attending didn't have a coat on, youu have to expect her chest to have that appearance - she was cold!

I hear ya, girl. My mom wore one of the most beautiful wedding dresses ever while marrying my dad. I always told myself that if I got married, I would wear a dress very similar to it. It was very modest with beautiful full-length lace sleeves and completely covered the bust area. It was gorgeous!

I've seen pictures of HIDEOUS wedding dresses and I have to say that Princess Kate's dress was probably the tamest out of all of those. I wouldn't even describe her dress as hideous because it is very much like my mom's without the plunging neckline or pointy corset. I remember seeing a photo of a woman who wore a dress in public that showed WAY too much of her chest. She only had a tiny portion covered. I also heard of a couple that got married in the nude in Vegas. :ohno: That to me is a huge embarrassment, not because I'm ashamed of the human body, but because I think people should have way more respect for themselves.

I love the wedding dress that Grace Kelly wore:

This is just a breathtaking picture. Wow.....so cool that her name was Grace. Very fitting!

B R E A T H T A K I N G ! ! !

Now that's something I think even the Blessed Virgin might consider... but probably not fitted. I would consider that dress if I had ever married.

I can't help but find Katherine's neck plunge embarrassing. I just would have liked a gown neck like Grace Kellys.

Agreed. It was rather overcast in London that day. Here it's been quite windy (seeing as we live in a city that's on a river and on the Irish Sea), and therefore cooler. I'm wearing a light cardy over a short-sleeved shirt. Oh, and Westminster Abbey is cold.

Oh, without a doubt :P

ABout the above picture: Who are all those kids? I saw them on the balcony too.
Sorry I missed your question earlier. The children in the picture are the bridesmaids and pages. In England, the custom isn't usually to have a flower girl and ring bearer. Instead, at least some (or all) of the bridesmaids are young children. (However, in some weddings, there are several adult bridesmaids, as well as several child bridesmaids.)

I've heard more than one explanation for the child bridesmaids, but the one I remember, and like best, is that the young children symbolically represent the children the couple will someday have.

At Prince Anne's wedding, she had only two attendants--her much younger brother Edward, and Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones, daughter of the late Princess Margaret, and niece of the Queen. Both were aged nine at the time of the wedding. Princess Anne said she didn't want to have deal with lots of young children running around. Princess Anne never seemed to be naturally the maternal type, but both her children have said that she was a great mother, and both her children have turned out well, and still get along well with their mother as adults.

In fact, when people ask when the next royal wedding is, it is in late July (the 29th or 30th--can't remember which) when Princess Anne's daughter Zara marries the rugby star, Mike Tindall. They are having a very low-key, small wedding in Scotland. Not sure why they are marryng in Scotland, but if nothing else, it will make it easier to keep the wedding small and private. The couple have been dating for many years, and against royal protocol, every time I see pictures of them together, they are holding hands. (Just holding hands--not inappropriate PDA. I find it very sweet and refreshing.)

As for all the talk of Princess Grace of Monaco, her son Albert is getting married soon, as well, (in June, I think). Albert waited a LONG time to marry--I think he is 50ish. I'm pretty sure that Princess Caroline (his younger sister) is not wildly happy about his marriage, because I think Caroline had been counting on her oldest son becoming the next ruler of Monaco, if Prince Albert had no legitimate children. Prince Albert's fiancee is in her 30's, so children are likely. (We know that Prince Albert is able to father children because he has two illegitimate children--that we know of.) The Grimaldi family, rulers of Monaco, have never been particularly fastidious in their morals--despite being Catholic. (Of Princess Caroline's three marriages, the second two were civil marriages that took place when she was already pregnant.)

LOL--Some people are experts on every detail of Star Trek. For me, it's royalty, particularly British royalty, but to some extent, royalty in other European countries as well. Yes, I know it's weird, but pretty harmless (so far, at least).

Ah, I understand now. Thanks a lot for the explanation, and don't worry: everyone has an obsession with something, be it Royals or Star Trek. Royalty is a pretty cool thing to know a lot about, if you ask me. At least it's not some emtyheaded celebrity...Or postage stamps :P
