Two, actually three, reasons why Charles and Camilla didn't marry the first time around:

--Charles is by nature a procrastinator. Camlla wanted to get married, and not wait around. In the 60's, women got married younger than than do today.

--Camilla never wanted to be Queen. Actually, this is the problem most women had with Charles (besides him being a dim twit.) Even now, she hates doing public appearances, and does very few compared to the Queen or Princess Anne.

--The Royal family considered Camilla too "common"--not even a title. LOL Unlike William, Charles has no backbone.

(I'm sure these aren't all the reasons, but I hope help explain it.)

I'M GLAD...cos then, Will and Harry wouldn't be so handsome!!!!

Does anybody know why nuns were on the altar???

One explanation is that they were security officers in disguise. Take a look:

They're a bit  in the Church of England...
I agree with cmotherofpirl. I thought this was one of the most spontaneous, fun moments of the celebration. There was nothing irreverent about it. The service was over. The guests had left. And, I doubt he knew the cameras were still running.

Note: The gentlemen is not a member of the clergy, but a verger, that is, a layperson whose job it is to help with the upkeep of the Abbey--a huge job! I was impressed that he was in such a good mood. He has spent the last weeks getting the Abbey in good shape, and now has to help with the massive job of clean-up.

If nothing else, it proves that you can do gymnastics in a cassock.

As for them being a bit  in the Church of England, well speak for yourself. And, if you want to get precise about it, the Abbey is not run, funded, or an official church of the Anglican communion. It is what is known as a "royal peculiar." (Seriously.) So, maybe they are a bit crazy in England, if not the Church of England. If so, I say, "Long live the Queen."

Do people seriously think her neckline was immodest???

I didn't think it was even a little scandalous or inappropriate.

Yes, I've heard a few people remark on it. It is a bit too deep of a V for my taste, but I think the general "atmosphere" (if you will) of the dress is regal, lovely, and elegant. Immodest is not a word that comes to my mind at all.

I think it's important to remember that while modesty DOES include objective standards, it's often more the attitude which an outfit conveys. For me, this definitely gets a pass on the "CherieMadame Modesty Radar" .... although I'll admit that in the general scheme of things, that really doesn't count for anything ;) :like:

It appears to show a little too much of her private area and her neck/chest. It also has strange pointy things on the cups rather than rounded. Strange. I've read that the designers point of making drop necks is to bring mens eyes to the area that should be guarded. It really isn't necessary to show all of that, and in my opinion, is not as modest as it ought to be, especially with a Ministor looking at her and standing in God's house, making vows to God and spouse.

I also don't care for the common sleeveless or armless wedding gowns these days. It's ridiculous. The FI Sisters recounted a story about assisting at a wedding in Italy, and anyone (bride and guests) that wore unchaste or immodest attire had to wear a covering they provided. Two guests that wore the covering and had bad tops on underneath later left after the wedding, refusing to take their covering off because they were ashamed of what they wore. Wow.

Love the picture about " Yes, we've brought back sleeves! You're welcome.":clapping:

It drives me bats that ALL the wedding dresses for the past few years seem to be the same strapless style. I can't believe that there are no designers out there who can be a little original or different. Argh!!! Just a personal peeve of mine.

Agreed!!!

I walked into a bridal dress shop and my first requirement was sleeves, and the lady there told me, "You aren't going to find a dress with sleeves anywhere, and we don't have any here." I was so upset, it was the first shop I tried and it really discouraged me.

Hopefully this will bring about a wave of more modest, more classy bridal gowns!

I had a friend talk me into watching the highlights from the 6 hours of wedding day programming -- and I have to agree, the dignity and reverence of the service was not only refreshing, it was downright glorious. It felt like a luxurious display of Authority and Tradition.

And when Miss Middleton was entering the church and the carillon bells were ringing, I found myself thinking that if a mere royal wedding could be so infectiously joyous what will the actual Wedding Feast of the Lamb be like in Heaven? When, after all, it will go on forever....

  :blowkiss:

Yes yes yes!!!

And at that wedding, all eyes will be on the Bridegroom, not the Bride!!!!:notworthy2:

I read just a piece today of the new book " Heaven Is Real," written by the Dad of a little boy who was given a visit to heaven.
He was 4 years old at the time. One of the things he said was,
"Jesus is the only one who wears purple there. Did you know that Dad?"
Is that amesome or what.

I can only imagine (and I often do} with what splendor our Groom will be attired on that Day. Oh. My. Goodness.

Ok, I typed amesome instead of amesome but the edit won't work.
I am a little obsessive about spelling. And now I see this is another case of something smelling of elderberries. LOL

I had a dream once that was so real. I could see Jesus coming down out of heaven. The sky was completely dark, then there was a break in the clouds very far up....there was bright light in that break, and He began to descend.
I woke up out of that dream so excited!!! Still makes my heart beat a little faster when I remember it.

Let the day be soon, Lord!!!!:nun1:

To A Louse.
On seeing one on a lady's bonnet at church.

by Bobby Burns

Ha! Where are you going, you crawling wonder?
Your impudence protects you sorely,
I can not say but you swagger rarely
Over gauze and lace,
Though faith! I fear you dine but sparingly
On such a place

You ugly, creeping, blasted wonder,
Detested, shunned by saint and sinner,
How dare you set your foot upon her -
Such fine a lady!
Go somewhere else and seek your dinner
On some poor body

Off! in some beggar's temples squat:
There you may creep, and sprawl, and scramble,
With other kindred, jumping cattle,
In shoals and nations;
Where horn nor bone never dare unsettle
Your thick plantations

Now hold you there! you are out of sight,
Below the falderals, snug and tight;
No, faith you yet! you will not be right,
Until you have got on it ---
The very topmost, towering height
Of misses bonnet.

My sooth! right bold you set your nose out,
As plump and gray as any gooseberry:
O for some rank, mercurial resin,
Or deadly, red powder,
I would give you such a hearty dose of it,
Would dress your breech!

I would not have been surprised to spy
You on an old wife's flannel cap:
Or maybe some small ragged boy,
On his undervest;
But Miss's fine balloon bonnet! fye!
How dare you do it.

O Beatrice do not toss your head,
And set your beauties all abroad!
You little know what cursed speed
The blastie's making!
Those winks and finger-ends, I dread,
Are notice takiing!

O would some Power the gift to give us
To see ourselves as others see us!
It would from many a blunder free us,
And foolish notion:
What airs in dress and gait would leave us,
And even devotion!
This truly made me LOL.:bravo:
And as I finished reading it I was so surprised, cause that last part has been going through my mind all weekend, the first line....never knew where it was from....it would be a gift to see ourselves as others see us.

I hear ya, girl. My mom wore one of the most beautiful wedding dresses ever while marrying my dad. I always told myself that if I got married, I would wear a dress very similar to it. It was very modest with beautiful full-length lace sleeves and completely covered the bust area. It was gorgeous!

I've seen pictures of HIDEOUS wedding dresses and I have to say that Princess Kate's dress was probably the tamest out of all of those. I wouldn't even describe her dress as hideous because it is very much like my mom's without the plunging neckline or pointy corset. I remember seeing a photo of a woman who wore a dress in public that showed WAY too much of her chest. She only had a tiny portion covered. I also heard of a couple that got married in the nude in Vegas. :ohno: That to me is a huge embarrassment, not because I'm ashamed of the human body, but because I think people should have way more respect for themselves.

I love the wedding dress that Grace Kelly wore:
