We're kinda stuck at the starting gate though. any suggestions or resources you can point me out to, to get started? any advice at all would be fantastic? if you've ever started up a retreat before i would love to here how you started it! thanks so much in advance everyone! tnavarro61
i don't know how the "youth" cullture in America, but here in my country, the SSVMs hold hikings and make it very spiritual. Maybe try to make a retreat in the mountains? That sounds FUN!
Lisa
In some ways, I feel like a college/young adult retreat or experience might be set up similarly to a high school one (just with different talks, schedule). Praise and worship music, activities- team building, icebreakers, etc, speakers- of course, talking about real issues that college students face, reconcilliation, quiet time for personal prayer (with college and young adults, you can spend much more time with this) and of course, Mass. Definitely make Mass the highlight of the day or the weekend.

Although, Soul'd out to God led to some confusion as many of my brilliant classmates thought that it was actually SOLD OUT. Not so. We'd find a movie that worked well with out theme: the Incredibles and The Human Experience. We'd have a speaker to talk about the theme, or about a subject that worked with a theme, usally graduates or friends of the planning team. Reconciliation and Mass are a must. Adoration was the best thing EVER. And because my HS was (And still is) insane, we'd do a skit. We did one on Peter walking (and sinking) in the sea and on "The Rich Guy" (the rich young man). Ask them to bring some food to share. There have got to be some books out there about college retreat ministry. I'd talk to the chaplin at your college and see what he has! tinytherese
Also, talk about young saints like Sts. Gemma, Rose of Viterbo, John the Apostle, Bernadette, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, etc. This site may also help. http://www.frassatiusa.org/ Are you familiar with Life Teen? Perhaps they're program could be adapted for college aged students. Edited April 30, 2011 by tinytherese
