Brother Adam
In many modern languages the name given to this greatest of feasts comes from the Hebraic word Pasch -- for Passover, the Passage through the Red Sea: Pascha in Latin, Pâques in French, Pasg in Welsh, Pasen in Dutch. However, the English word Easter is derived from Eastre, the name of a pagan Saxon goddess, because a spring festival in her honor was Christianized so that the word became the English equivalent of the Pasch. The Victimae paschali laudes that is sung before the Gospel of this Mass is a beautiful medieval "sequence" (musical chant) that dates back about a thousand years and describes in just a few poetic lines all the elements of the Paschal mystery -- His immolation, His triumph on the cross, His resurrection from the sepulcher. Allelulia! Jesus confounded all His enemies by clothing in glory and splendor that Body which had been the Victim of the cruelty of man. Christ's triumph over Death is the most conclusive proof of His Divinity and the foundation of our faith.
JenDeMaria
He is risen! He is risen indeed! Allelujah! Allelujah! Allehlujah! And thank you, Brother Adam, for that note on the sequence. We have such an amesome Church with such a rich history, don't we? I absolutely love every part of Easter, from the Vigil to Divine Mercy Sunday. Nihil Obstat
Et valde mane una sabbatorum, veniunt ad monumentum, orto iam sole, alleluia. And very early in the morning, the first day of the week, they came to the sepulchre, the sun being now risen, alleluia.

kafka
Let us sing to the Lord who is covered in wondrous glory! Honestly I am been exulted since last night. I feel like I could die today. We all suffer severly in the modern world, and it is very difficult being a true Catholic Christian, but I feel like God is amplying the joy of it all. I'm really feeling it. I wish we could all just be children of the Cross and Resurrection. The world would be so happy, and it will be one day, no matter what happens. Jesus is Risen. It is forever!!! My God is a warrior whose name is the Lord Jesus! And next week we get Divine Mercy Sunday and the beautification of John Paul II. What could be better than being a Catholic? edit to add, plus I was singing the Exultet in my sleep last night, but the words were a little different. Piccoli Fiori JMJ
+JMJ Loved Easter Vigil. I was asked to proclaim one of the Old Testament readings... I think I may have gotten a little too excited and tumbled over a few words, but when you have the first reading, there are a lot of words to possibly stumble over, lol! The liturgy of the Eucharist was amazing though... and I was very glad for it to arrive. My poor mother had to withstand what I called the 'Gospel Variety Hour' of psalms and hymns. She was so upset, she actually swore by the end of Mass.
