Mercy me
There are some very beautiful churches in some very monetarily poor places. There are many places in South America that come to mind. There is a reason for that. and it is not that some rich person came it to build a fabulous church. It is that the people built those Churches as a gift to God, to glorify God and to help other people be reminded of Him Glory as they pray in these beautiful churches. The fruit of a strong prayer life is visible in the charitable works of the Church. It reminds me a bit of the women giving a little but it was all that she had versus that man giving a great sum.
I'm an enormous fan of the FSSP in Nigeria. "Welcome to the website of the Nne Enyemaka Parish in Umuaka, Imo State, Nigeria. Nne Enyemaka is Igbo for "Our Lady of Perpetual Help". The parish is a personal parish in the Catholic diocese of Orlu and was inaugurated by the current Bishop, His Lordship Augustine T. Ukwuoma. The particular charism of the parish is to comply with the extraordinary form of the Latin Rite of liturgical worship. The parish is administered by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP www.fssp.org)." People can say what they want about charity and the third world. Most of those people don't live there long term, build a church *from scratch*, and put everything they have into building up the faith of that community. Every part of their construction was done by hand, by the community, including the priest. Part of that involved demolishing reinforced concrete with sledgehammers and a couple wheelbarrows. Plus it was around 45 celsius (113F), and they had very little money for materials.
Check this one out: The story is that he was praying the Divine Office while walking around a bit trying to find some shade, and suddenly somebody yelled snake and ran over to hit it with a shovel. Then the priest got out the Rituale Romanum to find the prayers against snakes. Awesome story.
