What Opportunities...

Apart from phatmass and other net communities, what opportunities have you all had for fellowship within the Catholic Church?

I was active in the Newman Center for a while, but it seemed that orthodoxy was gathering dust on a back shelf somewhere, and also there was a "high school" like environment. Then I went through a brief searching period where I mostly spent time with my family, but I was going nuts without anybody to share my faith with.

Then I prayed for good Catholic friends my own age, and a classmate invited me to his Bible Study. It has been awesome. I had lost hope that there were twenty-something Catholics on fire for God and loyal to the Church. God has provided. Of course there are the same problems with any other human organization, but it has been great, and I've learned a lot. These cradle Catholic reverts put me to shame. Hey, aren't converts supposed to be the devoted ones? Think again!

This is also another answered prayer...that other may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should. :)

Well, for several months I didn't really have many Catholic friends. My RCIA sponsor is a close friend of mine, and actually during that period she and I got to be a lot closer, which has been great.

Then, a few weeks before Easter I started to find some other Catholic folks to hang out with and share faith with, which has been great. I learned that some of my co-workers are Catholic, which has been cool, and one co-worker's wife's cousin was received into the church this past Easter too, so we e-mailed back and forth several times sharing some of our experiences, which was AWESOME.

I've not really made any close friends at my parish yet, but I have high hopes of that happening, slowly but surely. I guess my biggest frustration right now is that I am SUPER EXCITED about my faith, and want to talk about it a lot, but people I can share that with are few and far between.

Thy Geekdom Come

I'm not a convert, but I would recommend that those who have become Catholic help to teach RCIA at their parishes. You know well where others are coming from and it will help to strengthen your faith.

Just let people know your conversion story...also if you are younger (or even if your young at heart) get involved with helping out with Youth Ministry...I do that at My Parish.

I'm actually planning to do just that, Raphael. I've already spoken with the sister in charge of our RCIA program. I had talked it over with a handful of friends, then one of them was good enough to mention to Sister Therese that I might be interested, and of course from there I was committed.
