The Best Book For A Lukewarm Catholic

So, say someone comes up to you and says, "I'm Catholic, but I think I should learn more about my faith. I don't feel like I know what being Catholic is." This person is a young, professional woman, who is starting a career as a lawyer.

What is the best book (or two) to get her?

I'm thinking something introductory, not too intensive--something that'll explain the basics and leave her with a desire to learn more...

Here's my initial thoughts...

- Surprised By Truth - Patrick Madrid
- Catholicism for Dummies -John Trigilio and Kenneth Brighenti
- Rome Sweet Home - Scott Hahn
- Why Do Catholic Do That? - Kevin Orlinn Johnson
- The Mass: The Glory, the Mystery, the Tradition - Donald W. Wuerl
- Seven Lies About Catholic History - Diane Moczar

Thoughts on those? Anybody know the perfect book?

This book. Entertaining, not boring, quick read, but in depth. It also has a listing of books in the back, and throughout the book. I've given several away as gifts to exactly the kind of person you describe.

What about "Catholic For A Reason: Scripture and the Mystery of the Family of God" by Scott Hahn and many other authors...? I think I may give her 2 or 3 books and tell them which order to read them.

That's actually the first title that came to mind for me. The sequel about Mary is pretty sweet too.

if she is really not knowledgeable about her faith, then I still think Catholicism for Dummies is the way to go. Contrary to the title, it doesn't dumb down any Church teaching - and it would be a great introductory book for this young lady.

i agree with following up with other books.

I'm so confused.

Matthew Kelly has two books with that name.

These books have not gotten the greatest reviews from seminarians that I know who have read them. I don't know the difference between the two, I have Redsicovering Catholicism but haven't gotten around to reading it.
