Lisa
+JMJ+ So if you go to the DSMME website, it tells you how many guests they have online at any given point. At 9:45 this morning, there were 287 people online looking at their website. Praise God! So many young women are looking at religious life because of them. Obviously they will not all end up as Sisters of Mary, but I am so happy that the Dominicans have reached out and introduced so many people to consecrated life and lives on fire for Christ! Prayers for many vocations to their community and all other communities faithful to the Church and Christ! As a random side note, I'm going to organize a nun run for our church as a non-committal, non-judgemental way of introducing people to sisters, and I was like "well, if I could get 2 or 3 people to go, it would be worth it." Yesterday, I met 3 more people discerning religious life who said they wanted to go!!! If it wasn't Lent, I would say the A-word! I was so scared about people finding out that I was discerning, and more people know than I wanted to know. Evidently if you go to Morning and Evening prayer, people start to assume. If they ask me point-blank, I'm a terrible liar/evader (which is probably a good thing). But as I've prayed about it and reflected, I thought I was so alone in considering this. If my discernment tells some freshman/sophomore, etc that "it's ok to discern religious life, that doesn't make you an outcast", then God has used me for His purpose! My discernment is between God and me (with help from my spiritual director), but if other people knowing is His Will, then may I accept it humbly and give all glory- and suffering- to Him! Thanks be to God! Sorry about the randomness of this thread! Prayers for all of you today!!!!!!!! Edited April 12, 2011 by Lisa

When I was in the middle of my second year at college (I graduated in three years, so it was my sophomore/junior year combined), my chaplain took me aside a few times and strongly encouraged me to become more... 'public'... in my discernment, for the sake of our younger students. It took a lot of prayer and infused courage to do so, but when I did... Well, there's been a lot of good fruits. Hardly because of my sole efforts, but I think being "out there" and showing younger students that it's okay to discern and it's okay to be open about it and hey, it's normal, is helpful. So keep going!! You'll never know the people you'll inspire just by your witness!!
