CatherineM
I can tell you that they were not enchanted by my presence while removing the packing from the wound. About the best thing I can say about my behavior is that I didn't kick any of them. My voice is really sore right now.
IgnatiusofLoyola
I can tell you that they were not enchanted by my presence while removing the packing from the wound. About the best thing I can say about my behavior is that I didn't kick any of them. My voice is really sore right now.
Personally, I think you were doing them a favor. Sometimes I think medical personnel start to actually believe the line they feed you about "this may cause some discomfort." I think that a reminder that a procedure actually hurts like heck is a good reality check. Plus, holding in your feelings could interfere with the healing process. I'm sure I've read a scientific study about that somewhere. Okay, maybe not, but it makes sense to me.

MissScripture
The Dean told me that I was not to do school work while I am in the hospital, so my husband stole my textbooks. That was quite a feat as I had them in my backpack under my right arm. I was actually finished with all my class work except one take-home exam which isn't due until the 20th. The Dean said if necessary, I would take an Incomplete until I could get home and finish my exam. And yes, it is very early here. 5am. My IV computer decided to start screaming. My room has an incredible view of the downtown skyline all lit up, and I'm in the brand spanking new Lois Hole hospital for women. It would seem like a boutique hotel except for the uncomfortable bed. I hate sleeping on my back. God provides us with so many daily opportunities to do his work. My roommate here has schizophrenia and an unpleasant habit of drinking anti-freeze and cutting herself to the point she has had to have skin grafts on her forearms. They moved her previous roommate out because the prior woman was calling her hateful names. That was the first thing she asked me is if I was going to be nice to her. She has a nurse's assistant assigned to her during the day as a suicide watch. I did make the hubby go home to his bed. It's important for his routine to not get interrupted anymore than is necessary. Tomorrow is his by-monthly injection day, so I didn't want anything interfering with that. I am as comfortable as they can make me, and I'm pretty sure I am the only woman on the floor who has her own tailored hospital gowns, brown with polka dots, only because the fabric was 50 cents a yard. The coolest thing they have changed since the last time I was in the hospital is the bedpans. They are disposable and made from the same material as McDonald's cup carriers. Can you just see them on the manufacturing line? One glob of paper headed towards the cup holder press cheering, and one glob headed towards the bedpan line, screaming. My Filipino nurse thinks it is a horrible waste of money. I'm clicking away on a computer that is suspended over the bed with a waterproof keyboard. It is also the TV, so no watching TV while surfing the net, but at least I don't have to worry about my netbook getting pinched. I'm told they are going to roll me at 6:30. Thank God for handrails. I'd hate to end up on the floor. One of the medicines they have been giving me gives me an awful taste in my mouth, bit like shoe polish. And no, you don't get to ask how I know what shoe polish tastes like. They have so many electrodes attached to me, that it is going to take me a month to get all the sticky off once I get to go home. Always felt sorry for my Dad. He had a very hairy chest, and there was no easy way to get those things off him. Then until the hair grew back in he looked like a blond gorilla with mange.
I find it interesting about the roommate you have --do they not have specialized psych units at hospitals there? Or is it because of the other medical complications? I'm also REALLY confused about that bedpan description. How do they not leak and/or get smushed by people? It seems like a huge accident waiting to happen! And I swear they use Gorilla Glue for the adhesive in hospitals! Having the tape from my IV removed was BY FAR the most painful part of heart surgery! (Okay, maybe not really, but it's the only part I didn't have heavy duty drugs for, so it was the only part I really remember).
Tally Marx
I just saw this thread, Catherine! And I will definitely be praying for you. I am glad you are doing alright, considering, now! Infections can be sooo nasty- my cousin (41, w/ 5 kids 13-3) passed away from one a week ago. ....I thank God you got to the hospital in time! If it is not too much to ask, can you please offer some of your suffering up for my cousin and her little ones? Again, you are definitely in my prayers!!! (PS: I will also be praying for your room mate)
