Don't they have TVs at the hospital up there? I bet you could con them into changing the channel for a little while!

ESPN's not on basic cable here, and there aren't a lot of wifi hot spots here either. Fever's down to 101. Plus, I can't drive like this, and my husband doesn't know how to drive. The EMT's come so often for me, they know me by name, so I'd like to avoid that if possible. Getting old smells of elderberries.

A few months back, my grandma got really sick and weak suddenly and needed to go to the ER in the middle of the night. On her way to the car, she fell and my grandpa couldn't lift her back up, so they had to call an ambulance. A couple weeks ago, she tripped and fell in the basement and broke her arm, so they needed to call the ambulance again. It was the same EMTs both times. One of them told her that they had to stop meeting this way, and if she wanted to see them so badly, they'd take her out for coffee. :hehe:

But back to your problems --like I said, an ulcer that size should be looked at by a doctor. Particularly with a fever like that. You really don't want an infection!

It's not an ulcer. If it was, I'd have gone right off. It is beneath the skin. Maybe I've been implanted with a alien baby.

If the skin is intact, then it's highly unlikely it's infected, I suppose. So, that's definitely good. But I think it would still be called an ulcer  ...at least from what we learned from wound care I think it is...but I could be wrong. I don't have my woundcare books with me. At any rate, good luck with it! Often what can't be seen is much worse than can be on wounds like that. Prayers for you! Even if an ER visit isn't warranted, you should get it checked by a doctor in the very near future.

My husband just spent a half an hour on the phone with the mednurse. Until it forms a head, there isn't much to do about it. I'll go if my fever hits 102, or if I get reddness or streaks.

BLAST IT! Why is it that you get to have all the fun and the rest of us just get to hear about it?! But if you do deliver darling little aliens, you'll have to tell us all about it. And get them baptized. So we can settle the debate on that hypothetical question on the Lame Board.

Back to the patron saint: I nominate St. Simeon Stylites, the Armenian who lived on a platform on top of a pillar for years & years. I seriously doubt that he had a cusion up there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simeon_Stylites

It's the size of a duck egg, and I'm running a fever of 101.5, so I am debating going to the hospital.

I was a certified nursing assistant and we learned about pressure sores in school. They are very nasty and if you have a fever, you should go to the hospital because it could be infected. That's why we learned it is so important to turn patients who are bedridden. Refrain from massaging the red spot as that can actually make it worse. If you can, try to sleep on your stomach to relieve the pressure so as not to make it worse. I hope you feel better soon!

I didn't read this before I posted.

The nurse would know better than I since I am just a former CNA (my certificate expired). Definitely go if it gets streaky looking as that is cellulitis and could cause major problems. My sister had it and it took forever for it to go away.

Just took a nap, and it feels less painful, and my fever is down to 100. It's not red or streaky, just popped up like an enormous pimple that hasn't formed a head yet. I'm going to my regular doctor tomorrow. Hopefully he will have something to lance because that is supposed to bring immediate relief. It must hurt if I'm willing to let my regular doctor look at me down there. He's a former Israeli paratrooper, and a bit on the brusk side. I just hope he doesn't lance it with a bayonet.

I don't bend or twist at the waist very good, so I'd be poking blind. I'm certainly not going to let himself do it.

I understand much better now about when my Dad would refer to someone as being a boil on the butt of humanity.
