And cutting funding to PP is a bad thing?

There is obviously blame on both sides of this issue, but I blame Obama for one specific thing in all this: a bill was proposed to guarantee pay and before it even went up to vote he threatened to veto it. A lot of suffering could have been avoided and he shot it down before it had a chance. That's how much Obama cares about the millions of military and hundreds of thousands gov employees.

My thoughts exactly.

and don't forget the thousands of contractors that will not be able to report to work on Monday, because their contracts states that their lead needs to be present. In essence if their government lead is non-essential, then they cannot work. And these people in all likelihood will not get paid (unless their company is really, really good about it).

At least those who get furloughed have a chance at getting a paycheck.

(I'm lucky -- I'm not in that boat. But a ton of my co-workers are).

Right. I guess I was thinking of contractors under the umbrella of gov workers since they are contracted by the gov.

In other news the DFAS has withdrawn our LESes in the event that a stop-gap bill gets put through or the issue is resolved soon (which would mean we get full pay instead of half). I guess we'll see where this goes... that only covers Active Duty and Reservists, though, not contractors and gov employees as I understand it. So it still smells of elderberries for a lot of people. :(

I was going to make a joke that since the government is shutting down, I guess we don't need to pay taxes...then it occurred to me they might not send my tax refund while they're shut down. GIMME MY MONEY!

They definitely won't be if you filed with a paper return instead of e-file.

And there's what I mean.

Both sides are calculating that the partisans will manage to convince non-partisan voters that the other side is to blame. Open up the NYT op-ed page and see everything the republicans have been doing to obstruct. Partisans on both sides are absolutely convinced on the sanctity of their own side. Sadly this mutual self-rightousness and short term political calculations are causing hard working people pain.

You're kidding right? I guess the fact that the President has decided to veto the republican bill does not say anything to you about what " side " is blocking the budget? How about the fact that the budget is mandated by the constitution to have been passed last november, and the democrats, who were in control of the house and senate at the time, refused to even produce a budget to be considered as they were concerned it would cost them their re-election. The times is a liberal rag, take that for what its worth, but they see no wrong in anything the President does or does not do and for that matter any liberal policy or policy maker.

Do you feel that the fact the President and the democrats in the senate see no room in their budget of 1.3 Trillion dollars to cut out anything, there seems that there may be a little wiggle room in the budget, but according to the liberals cutting anything may ruin the country. The republicans have offered six different amended budgets and the democrats refuse to pass one of them. Now fill me in on "everything the republicans have been doing to obstruct" , shewww.
