cappie
Actually, if one were to look at the history, one would note that Liturgical renewal began before Pope Pius XII. Take a look at Sacrosanctum Concilium, the VII document on the liturgy. They explain why they are calling for a change. http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_const_19631204_sacrosanctum-concilium_en.html Please take note that VaticanII itself didn't actually change the liturgy. What it did was call for a reform of the liturgy, and that occurred several years after the close of the council. The Council did not call for the Mass to be completely in the vernacular, BUT the Pope, using his proper authority, allowed the expansion to a vernacular Mass. Neither the pope nor the council, however, called for nuns or others in leotards leaping about the sanctuary.
