Thy Geekdom Come
I'm allowed to drink when I'm with my parents. Yay for Texas! Now, I have decided through the course of my 18 years that beer is disgusting, but wine's great!
What kind of beer have you had? Many people who only just try hate the cheap stuff (Coors, Budweiser, Miller), but love other stuff...and there are so many kinds... I'm allowed to drink at home, with or without parental guidance, but only inside the house and not to the point of drunkenness (which isn't a problem at the rate I drink). qfnol31
LoL, I dunno, but it's not too cheap. It's what my dad buys for his dad.

If they're anything like the monks at Conception Abbey, alcohol is most definitly allowed (no offense at all to the men @ Coneption, they are my heroes). Ain't that right Raphael? twf
In British Columbia, where I live, the ages are (BC is the western-most province of Canada, for those who don't know, north of the state of Washington): 16 to get a learner's license 17 to get a novice license (assuming you get your learner's as soon as your turn 16) 18 to vote 19 to get a full license (assuming you earned your novice right when you were 17) 19 to buy alcohol 19 to buy tobacco products
Philippe
ya this is the thing with my parents... they lived in Canada and they could drink at 18 so when they went into College people wouldnt go out to get drunk because it wasnt as rebelious as it is today. Since people arent supposed to be drinking at 18 they do anyways cause mostly the high of doing it when your not supposed to and you wanna party but if the drinking age was 18 it wouldnt be such a big deal if someone went to a party because they most likely wouldnt get drunk since the high of drinking when your not allowed wasnt there. thats my 2 cents :\
cmotherofpirl
Actually I think they should both be 21. An 18 year old is still developing the part of his brain that deals with critical judgement. Its not fully developed until the early twenties. Thats why kids do things us adults consider completely insane and foolhardy, and take great risks with their lives: driving too fast, or drinking and driving, doing drugs etc. You know that invulnerable feeling kids have that makes moms heart stop and gives us gray hair...thats the one I am refering to.
Huh? Anyway, I drink (with my mother's permission of course) and I don't see why the legal age shoun't be 18. They've done studies on the drinking habits of 18 and 21 year olds and found they both abuse aclochol equally (sorry mother of pearl). Anyway, as for if the idea that if the drinking age was lowered to 18 15 year olds would be buying beer they judge it by the age on driver's licnese anyway, so appearces don't matter.
1st, you need our taste buds checked, lol. Beer is nasty, at least the stuff my parents have let me try. I agree with your statement about the rebel thing. I used to want to drink (never did) until my parents let me try some wine and beer. The beer was nasty, but I liked the wine, my mom hates it so we never have it. But after they let me try it there was no want to drink any more. Plus, they don't have to worry about me drinking, lol. Once they bought a case of beer for the super bowl. We had it than for super bowl 2003. We had the same beer for the rest the year and into the next, lol.
crusader1234
I like beer, but maybe it is just me. As a teenager, 16, I drink. I go to parties, and sometimes I get a little tipsy or whatever but never totally wasted. I can (99%) always look my parents (and God in a metaphorical sense) and let them know that I'm not going out and getting plastered and losing my senses. I have never lost, and never plan on losing my senses and doing something regrettable. My parents know I drink, and while they dont want me getting drunk, they know I dont so they trust me. I think that everything should be rooted in trust. If they trust you, you wont want to rebel. You'll think wow, they trust me, lets not wreck that. At the beach when I was about 13, my dad offered me and my cousin a beer. Her mom said NO! MY KIDS CANT DRINK!... Anywyas, as it turns ous, I never get drunk, and both of that Aunt's kids get drunk every weekend and one does cocaine. Parents need to either teach their kids, or shelter them to the point that their kids wont even know alcohol exists. So all you parents out there: teach your kids about alcohol, let them try it while you can keep an eye on them and watch out for any sort of irresponsible attitudes towards drinking! one of the main reasons i DONT get drunk is becuase i have a mature attitude towards alcohol... which i whole heartedly attribute to my parent's teaching me how to drink responsibly.
