Crusader_4
Hey a quick question for everyone excuse my ignorance but i am under the impression that in the states you need to b 18 to vote...to serve in the military yet 21 to drink...Now not that i encourage a younger drinking age or anything by any means i just cant understand how one can be entrusted with the power to infleunce the government and the nation at 18 and at the same time b too young to make RESPONSIBLE desescions about drinking? Whats up?

pinstripes
welcome to america, where the popular vote has never gotten the president into office. the ages used to be reversed, until the issue was raised that you can be 18 to die for your country and 21 to vote in it. that didn't make sense, so the changed it. i guess there were too many problems with drinking by people in the 18-21 age bracket (and probably a lot more younger than 18), so a change needed to be made. other countries don't have as strict regulations, but other countries are just different, and drinking is a cultural norm, and not simply a way to get drunk. if an 18 year old can pass off for 21 on a fake ID, a 15 year old can pass off as 18 on a fake ID... moving it to 21 eliminates the possability of a 21year old looking 15 year old. it's not fair for those who are responsable, but it's also the responsable thing to do to uphold what the country's laws are and set an example for others. here's to patriotism Edited April 23, 2004 by pinstripes
HomeTeamFamily
also, alcohol is abused more so i think the extra three years give people a chance to grow up and theorhetically not abuse it so much......do i realize that tons of underage drinking goes on anyway, yes.......but i still think the intent of the law is good i think the voting age was changed down to get more people involved in voting, a process which leads to a greater understanding of civic duty and whatnot

Iacobus
It was called the noble expriment of Prohibation. Banning drinking cause Americans to septerate from teh Euro model of drinking (at meal time have a beer or glass of wine) and we made your own. It is called the drink all you can as fast as you can and try not to die model. Sometimes we attach than drive to the title. My parents don't drink much but when they do it is at a meal and in very much moderation. They have let me have some drink before (1/2 a glass of wine or something) at home or on the crusie. The model they have shown by example looks much better to me, and will be the one I live by, than the other ones I see.
Banksey
you know how i see it as kids this day and age find that it if it's not allowed then do it and when they do it its of the heezy and just go crazy. but in other countries where maybe the legal limit is only like 15 or 16 then they just drink and chill no big problem. and they never think about getting drunk or anything. Oh, and the Amendment to repeal it is #21. How funny is that? But seriously, Europe doesn't seem to have the drinking problems we do, and there they have either no age limit or they don't care (like in Italy) or the age limit is lowered to like 15. I see no problem to drinking in moderation. Here's to living in Wisconsin!
From WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement: Can children be in a bar with their parents? Yes. Persons under age 21 may be on licensed premises, and can be sold and allowed to drink alcohol beverages, if they are with their parents, legal guardians, or spouses, as long as those persons are of legal age; but this is at the discretion of the licensee.
