Groo the Wanderer

Dunno about y'all, but I find it irritating to wade through old threads that have been resurrected by someone making an inane post to a discussion that rightfully died years ago. How about a feature that auto-locks a thread that has had no replies in say...a year? That way they are still findable, searchable, and crunchable, but not resurrectable.

who's with me?

I think this is a much more charitable option than punishing the offenders as they deserve:

squeezing between the sweaty thighs of a sumo

crushing beneath the waste generated by a school of orcas for one year

tossed into the midst of a shopping mob at macy's with a 90% off sale on handbags

cooked and fed to monkeys then thrown at zoo patrons fllwing digestion
On most forums, etiquette says that before starting a new thread, you check to see if it's been discussed in the past, and if it has, you resurrect that discussion.

Of course, the search function is pretty awful around here, so that is only sometimes an option.

However, it seems that people often feel the need to bump polls without actually contributing anything, just voting. And then someone else comes along and, not realizing it is years old, starts arguing with someone who isn't around.

idk, though, sometimes it's so old it needs a fresh new take! So starting a new thread seems better!

Nihil Obstat

There have been some very good threads around here that started after an old thread was bumped. Sometimes round two is better than round one.
Although these days, usually round one was more stimulating.

In lieu of the forums' search function, try this:

Google for:

"site:www.phatmass.com $SEARCH_TERM", where $SEARCH_TERM is what you're looking for. That'll only search phatmass's archives.
