YMNolan
I'm not sure I even know what I am asking here or that I completely understand my own view of the subject but here goes... As far as I can tell from the catechism, the Original Sin was a sin of disobedience. Lust was a result of that sin. The main point is that God gave a command, and Adam and Eve, trusting in themselves and not God, disobeyed it. Every sin from here on out is disobedience to God's will. I have a friend who insists that the Original sin was a sin of lust. I guess she is saying that specifically the first sin was that Adam and Even had sexual relations which were lustful in nature. I always thought that lust was a product of the first sin and not the first sin itself. What is the truth? What, specifically, was the first sin, if we can even know that? Theoketos
Eating the fruit is an allegory for what specifically, the Church does not say. That being said, it is easy for a single evil act to be classified as many sins at once. And all sin finally comes down to man trying to make himself into a god via his own will.
