Lisa
So, obviously the liturgy of the hours has bible passages (especially the psalms). Are there different translations/or which translation do they typically use? Does anyone have a particular set they would recommend- where you bought it, etc.
Era Might
I think ICEL publishes the official English translation. But I think I remember reading there's going to be a new version?
Chamomile
I think ICEL publishes the official English translation. But I think I remember reading there's going to be a new version?
I've heard this before, but I don't know any details. I was also curious about the leaving out of verses in the Psalms. I think I actually first read about that on this site somewhere, but I was wondering if the Latin version of the revised LOTH contains all the verses or omits some like the English version. And so if the new translation would have those. I don't have any examples of the missing verses, but maybe if someone did a search on the site they could find the post I'm thinking about... ? I mean, the closing prayer for Morning/Evening (sometimes) is the same as opening prayer for Mass... which means we'll need the newly translated prayers to stay connected to the Mass. Cherie
Good point, TeresaBenedicta! I don't fancy buying a new 4-volume set (they're so expensive!) but I know it will be worth it, when they eventually get a new translation. I wish they'd at least use the RSV translation of the Scriptires, though ... !
MissScripture
My deacon told me that they will re-translate it after they finish up the Mass translations. I'm not sure if that means just the prayers to match up with the Mass (in which case, that should happen pretty much instantly) or everything or what exactly, but I am fairly certain there will be a new translation of some sort.
