Where Can I Get....

MAK

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new (again) to the forum. I won't get into my story as of yet but suffice it to say I've been on a somewhat winding path. I'm 47, so you can imagine the journey Ive had (wry smile)

After being away from the faith for awhile and am now coming back in. After conversing with a priest I am looking for confession to go to.

However, I do not have any of the necessary tools for my faith--no bible or rosary ( though fingers are great) Of course further down the line on my wishlist is getting a used Liturgy of The Hours and perhaps spiritual reading. But first things first.

What I'd like to know is if anyone knows where I might get these things inexpensively on the net? I know the internet has many things on-line but it is easier for me to read, and digest, from a book.

I guess what I was supposed to learn is that you can get rid of everything around you--as far as the material signs of faith--but God never leaves. He stays with you no matter what (as does Saint Joseph which is quite another story )

Thanks,
Kathryn

Thanks be to God!

I have heard really good things about rosarycard.net (they have rosarys for as little as $3.00) now, as I'm sure you realize, you may get what you pay for a little bit, but even if they break, pliers will always fix it! An important thing is to get it blessed by your priest- just walk up and ask him if he'll bless it, and he will :)

Amazon has an NAB (catholic version) for $6.95 - and it's eligible for Super Saver (if you order over 25 bucks, shipping is free). They also have rosarys ranging from $.89 for plastic ones (very lightweight, and they're cheap enough you can buy a few- have one in your car, purse, at home, etc.)

As for another thing that I find essential, I always have a crucifix in my bedroom. Some sort of visible reminder of God helps me towards holiness. As you can see here, they don't have to be expensive. Be assured of our prayers for you as God draws you home :)

Chestertonian

I have a Bible and an extra rosary that you can just have. I'd have to check to make sure, but I think the bible is the New American version and the rosary is black and plastic. Message me if you're interested and I'll send em to ya.

MAK, many churches have rosaries and rosary societies that give them away for free. I would ask at your parish, any parish nearby would do as well as for finding a place for confession. In Springfield Ohio St Bernards always has about 30 or so of the plastic rosaries setting in a basket at the back of mass along with the color pamphlet " How to pray the rosary " which has all the prayers and the mysteries and explains how to pray it for those who have either been away or are new to the devotion. I know that there are always many options to get free catholic bibles too in most parishes, just ask your priest, he would probably be so happy to hear of your return he would offer them too you or tell you how to get them from some group that offers them free, shepherds are like that, just like if you argue with your mom and stomp out of the house, come back and say you are sorry and she welcomes you back with open arms.

You mentioned fingers, have you seen the finger rosary, its a small circle of beads, sometimes metal or plastic that you could wear as a loose ring with a mini crucifix at the top, its a great tool to carry in your pocket so you can always have one nearby.

Welcome back by the way! The Communion of Saints has been awaiting your return!

Luke15:1;7

Parable of Divine Mercy. The tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear him, at which the Pharisees and the Scribes murmured " This man welcomes sinners and eats with them"" Then he addressed this parable to them: " Who among you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wasteland and follow the lost one until he finds it? And when he finds it , he puts it on his shoulders in jubilation. Once arrived home, he invites friends and neighbors in and says to them, ' Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you, there will be likewise more joy in heaven over one repentant sinner than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need to repent."

Enjoy your time on Jesus shoulders and feel the joy you have brought to heaven.

Ed,

Thank you for all the suggestions! I will look and see if there are rosaries in the vestibule as you have mentioned. I have an appointment to see the priest for confession this Saturday....please pray for me! What you wrote about the Communion of Saints waiting for me gave me this mental picture of all of them standing in the doorway, waiting and watching, as I come towards Home. This gives me such joy!

I have some rosaries, prayer books, and some spiritual reading you might be interested in that I'd be more than happy to give away. I was in the convent for five years, so I have plenty of very good materials to go around. Please send me a message if you're interested!
