they can never get away with venial sins. yes, they will not go to hell for venial sin but they could spend numerous lifetimes in purgatory. so yeah, you could do indulge yourself in this lifetime and do venial sins and no be punished for them. although because of all your venial sins you could spend 10 lifetimes in purgatory working off those venial sins. so indulge in venial sins for 100 years or so and then be forced to pay for them/work them off for 800 years or so.

Unrepentant venial sin will eventually lead to mortal sin. The venial sin itself is not mortal, but there eventually comes a point when a person will fall from grace. At that point, mortal sin is committed. So the unrepented venial sin is distinct from the mortal sin.

Like [b]Ash Wednesday[/b] and [b]havok[/b], I'm rather concerned by your notion of 'getting away with sin.' The consequences of venial sin are worked off in purgatory, so no, you don't 'get away with it.'

Why would you try to avoid sin? Gee, I dunno, maybe because sin is evil and damages your relationship with God? Maybe because you want to strive to be a better person? Maybe because you want to have better relationships with your fellow sojourners in this mortal life?

There's lots of reason to flee from sin and pray for the grace to avoid it. 'Avoiding hell' is only one reason, and far from the most convincing. We should all be striving for sainthood, and that does include dealing with persistent or other venial sins as best we can. Christianity is about a conversion of the heart, so that we turn away from even desiring to sin, and instead desire what God desires.

That ain't sin, of any variety.

there's in this thread though, people who are arguing it. or clarifying around how it all works, going to hell through venial sins.
