Can You Speak More Than 1 Language?

I wish I spoke French. I took a year of Spanish during my junior year of high school, but the teacher I had on the Homebound program for ill students was not very good at lesson planning, so when it came time to take Spanish 2 in my senior year, I could not understand very much. I could get the pronunciations correct, but I could not understand what I was saying so I ended up replacing Spanish with Drama I. I tried taking it twice in college as well and had to withdraw both times because it was too difficult for me. I don't like Spanish at all.

I'm not sure if I will have to fulfill the foreign language requirement or not if I complete the Bachelor's in Science program with a major in Biology, but if I do, I plan to try French or Italian (if Italian is offered). French seems like a very interesting language and Italian looks relatively easy to learn. :)

And...I can translate some words and phrases into Sindarin or Quenya, Tolkien's two main invented elvish languages.

Yes, the script (Tengwar) is beautiful and easy enough to learn. For anyone who is curious, I recommend Dan Smith's introduction: http://fan.theonering.net/rolozo/tengwar/tengwar/index.htm
There are also various runic alphabets as well.

I find it useful for sending postcards that no one else can read ;).

The languages are incomplete, so you could never become 'fluent' in them, but you can learn some really neat things to say!

For instance....
Átaremma i ëa han ëa,
na aire esselya,
aranielya na tuluva,
na care indómelya
cemende tambe Erumande.
Ámen anta síra ilaurëa massamma,
ar ámen apsene úcaremmar
sív' emme apsenet tien i úcarer emmen.
Álame tulya úsahtienna
mal áme etelehta ulcullo.

Násie.
That's the Lord's prayer in Quenya (the Elf-Latin, as Tolkien referred to it ;) ) There were 6 different versions written by Tolkien; this is merely one of them. Some other people tried to translate the prayer (not knowing Tolkien had already) and came up with something completely different (search: Attolma ).

Other than English, I took two years of spanish in HS, but I've forgotten most of that except some vocab. I learned a fair share of Ukrainian while studying in Kiev for a month. I can at least count to 5, but on good days, maybe 6. I know how to tell people I'm American in Ukrainian. I loved learning the Cyrillic alphabet and the Ukrainian balloons from McDonald's. I was hoping to learn a little more though... I still have all the handouts from our language instructor and the book I bought before I left. I like how knowing some Ukrainian, I can pick up on some Polish/Slovak. Dobre!

Oh! I forgot I can count to 10 and say a handful of phrases in Japanese, too. Mostly gleaned from kendo, but a little from anime, too.
