MeteorShower
I can speak English, and I can understand French (I struggle with speaking though, the accents and pronounciation are difficult). I can speak enough Spanish to get by. I tried learning Gaelic but it was really difficult, so I gave up after a couple of days. I also learnt Arabic for quite a few years, but I can't speak it that well.

BG45
English fluently. Some Spanish, it's rusty but enough that when I was at a table at a conference of people that only spoke the language I could catch about half of what was being said after a few minutes. Very little Arabic from a semester I took. French...I had a year of French, I can count to ten.

" I am stuck in this box, no you can not see the box, but this motion I am doing is actually defining the parameters of the box, work with me here, any now I am trying to open the door, well this box has a door, ok, forget that, I am walking this dog, he is right there! What are you stupid? its a little dog, notice I am bending down to pet it, oops, wait a minute he is stronger than I expected and is now pulling me away, look just give me a few dollars as I can not hold down a real job and I have invested a lot of my life and over 50 dollars in this crappy black and white outfit" ed
CatherineM
I used to be fluent in several languages, but when I fell on my head, I lost the ability to speak them or understand them when I hear someone speaking. I can still read several languages and under them about half the time. It will come out at weird times, like I'll write an entire email in French and not realize it, or answer a question in class in Spanish. The teacher just thinks I'm being a smartypants. TeresaBenedicta
Other than English... I can read/speak/comprehend some Spanish. I took three years in high school, but I'm not anywhere near fluent. I can read/comprehend some Greek. I took a year in college.
Luigi
French - used to be pretty proficient. I can still read it. I could brush up my comprehension and speech if I needed to. Writing would be comprehensible but incorrect. Spanish - was never proficient, but I can read and understand 60% on familiar topics. I've memorized half a dozen songs in Spanish. Can't write a lick of it. Italian - read & understand 80% on any non-technical topic. Understand and comprehend 50 - 75% of spoken Italian. Can produce only the simplest kinds of sentences in speech or writing. Hindi - took two full sememster (5 credit hours each) in college. The prof was a native speaker, but she didn't know how to teach language - she was really a philosophy prof. At the end of two semesters, the best sentences I could produce (speaking and writing) were, "These are Sita's saris" and "These are Ramu's broken shoes." Latin - two semesters in college. I was among the best students, but we didn't get very far - a couple of paragraphs on any given topic. Took Continuing Ed Gaelic one summer - teacher knew the language but not how to teach it, and we had only handouts instead of a textbook. No fluency of any sort. American Sign Language - fluent receptively & expressively on a wide range of topics.

I used to be fluent when I was younger but I have lost most of it. However, It is starting to come back especially with my sister in law trying to get me back to it. Cherie
English, yes - A little bit of Latin, a little bit of Italian, a little bit of Spanish, a little bit of French. Spanish is probably the one I know the best. I absolutely LOVE languages!!! When I was in Portugal I learned some Portuguese to "get by" and if I had spent a little more time there, I certainly would have learned it. It just danced off my tongue ... I loved it! Trying to brush up on my Italian and French as of recently.
