What can I say, when I came to PM, I was a dumb kid. I've just recently emerged from that former stupidity of youth. :hehe:

Which province of the Carmelites DCJ are you going to visit? I applied to the province in Milwaukee in March 2009. :)

Benedictine Order. I am a little biased b/c I know the Abbot personally. This Benedictine College is 20 minutes away from me.

I am with Navo ... Phatmass Friars of the Perpetual Chat.

But seriously I need to do research. I am not sure what is what. I am curious can you only be one? Do you have to join one? Where is a good place to read about them?

Oh my this is great...

The different communities are like flowers in Our Lord's garden, each one a little different, but offering praise to Our Lord in a unique way. We might like a Rose for its fragrance or a Violet for its humility or a Sunflower for its enthusiasm or a Lily for its gentleness... but each one has a place in Our Lord's heart.

You can for sure be many! An order is usually based on the spirituality of its founder- i.e. Dominic founded the Dominicans. He strongly believed in community life and devotion to Mary. So most Dominican communities have a strong sense of community and love Mary.

And you don't need to join an order to love their spirituality :) So, you can read Ignatius' (Founder of the Jesuits) on decision-making, you can love Francis's thoughts on the Incarnation at Christmas, admire the prayer schedule of the Benedictines, etc!

We love all the saints!!!!!

Here is a website that hits some of the "big" points: http://www.religious-vocation.com/differences_religious_orders.html

Carmelites (I wish I could be a part of them!)
And of course, The Franciscan Sisters Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus and of Mary Immaculate. I only know 3 Sisters from the Order but I hope there will be more chances to meet more in the future!

I had a wager with myself as to whether this or alphabetical would show up first.
I lost.

Am in no way suited to a Carthusian vocation.

Regardless, I really love the Meditations of Guigues le Premier, aka Magister Guigonis, aka Guigo, the fifth Prior of the Grande Chartreuse.

I like both Carmelites and Franciscans. :) More towards the Carmelite charism, though...

And also, the Little Sisters of the Poor! I LOVE their apostolate and love for the elderly!

Interestingly enough, there are many former Carmelites who are Little Sisters...I always found that fascinating...one of the postulants told me recently that they very much share in the Carmelite spirit, it's just more hidden and it's not what they're known for.
