Brown Scapular Blessing And Enrollment

I don't know if I've asked this here before or not, but here goes. I recently (in the past 2 days) started wearing my Brown Scapular with the Divine Mercy image all the time, even to bed. I felt bad for not wearing it, even after I had it blessed, simply because it "bothered" me. I've been doing some research on the Sabbatine Privilege and how to obtain the graces associated with wearing it faithfully. One thing I noticed is that there is a special enrollment prayer that must be said by the priest before the person begins wearing the scapular. My old parish priest did not use that enrollment prayer. He said a very simple prayer and then made the Sign of the Cross and handed it back to me. What I'm wondering is, was this a valid enrollment? Should I have my new parish priest bless and enroll me in it properly? I don't want to sound scrupulous or anything. I really love the scapular and I hope to continue wearing it. I started saying the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin tonight after reading about the devotion. I also kiss the scapular and say a Hail Mary at least once a day.

Anyway, answers would be greatly appreciated.

i would ask that your priest enroll you properly. my priest friend did it according to the enrollment that came with the scapular.

I wish that the scapular I bought had the prayer with it. I saw a few in the gift shop I bought it in, but the specific one I bought did not have it for some reason. I think I'll print out the prayer and ask my pastor to enroll me in it either sometime this week or this next Sunday. :)

What Red said.

Also, I  the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary!!!! I used to pray from the one-volume Christian prayer, but since I've had this version of the Little Office, I usually pray that instead. The prayers and anitphons are so beautiful and deep! I've been hoping to start a thread on this since I think more people could benefit from this devotion, which used to be incredibly popular among the laity, Third Orders, and even some religious.

It's taken me a long time to start wearing the scapular regularly (I'm still wearing it, so it's been the longest so far). I'm still wearing it even though I'm not officially enrolled in it because, to me, it is still a sacramental since it was blessed by my priest. I really hope to get enrolled in it officially very soon. :)

Interesting. I would think that wearing the scapular is the easy part... at least for me, it's been that way. The difficult part is living with an awareness that I'm wearing a scapular. Pretty sure I've never been enrolled in it officially, but my parish priest blessed the first brown scapular I wore. I take it off for showers and pray a Hail Mary every time I put it back on. Whether or not that's "official," I don't know, but I expect the graces are there nevertheless.

i think you are supposed to say either: the regular LOTH, the Little Office of the BVM, or a rosary - daily. Or your priest can dispense you from that and ask that you make a daily sacrifice. but pretty sure you have to be dispensed.

I still haven't managed to get my priest to enroll me. I was with my family on Sunday at Church and had to leave right after Mass because we were with my aunt who needed to get home and do her paper for school. I hope to get it done in the next week or so.

It's not because I don't want to wear it. It's not that at all. It's because my skin starts to itch from the wool. I don't know if I have a wool allergy, but I would like to wear the scapular. I have a blessed scapular medal but I feel like I'm cheating myself when I wear it. I hope to get properly enrolled in the scapular very soon.

mine did too, but i just got used to it. i haven't been wearing mine lately though, so, I'll have to get re-used to it.

Yeah, I think most people do get used to the wool. If not, and if the allergy is severe, you are allowed to wear the medal with the same graces attached to it. You still need to be enrolled in the scapular, though.

From what I remember, the medal was created so that those in warm and moist climates could wear a scapular - theirs kept falling apart due to the weather! So there are actual circumstances that would make it difficult to wear one, and as Our Lady is the Mother of Mercy, she understands :)
