Seasoning Talk

Recommended Posts

OK, let's talk about seasonings.

What's your favorite kind of seasoning?
What about your favorite seasoning for veggies?
What about your favorite "pre-mixed" seasoning you can get at most stores?

Anything else about seasonings you'd like to discuss?

Talk.

Lemon Pepper

I know where the pepper comes from but I have no idea what the lemon in the lemon pepper is made of, so I've always been kinda scared of it.

One of my favorite seasonings is Chef Paul Prudhomme's Magic Salmon Seasoning. We use it at the house very often, not only on salmon, but on other fish as well. The only thing it's not very good on is Mahi Mahi since it's such a mild fish. The seasoning kind of overpowers it. It's very good on salmon and tilapia.

You can't go wrong with cinnamon! I love it on applesauce, toast, egg nog, etc. Yum!

McCormick's taco (amazingly good) Seasoning is great for ground beef in tacos, so very tasty and good for you,. We use it all the time. The second best is taco (amazingly good) Bell's Home Original Packet.

I don't know if this counts, but everyone here at home LOVES Ortega's Tomatillo Sauce. It rocks!

1. Devil's Dung (i.e., food of the gods, asafoetida, hing) is my fave.
2. Chipotle powder is pretty amesome on many vegetables.
3. Curry powders are cool.

This stuff is wonderful when added to cold pasta salads, its the only pre-mix we use.

I use a lot of fresh herbs in my soups, I drag the window boxes into the spare room in the fall so I have fresh stuff all winter: parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, and basil. You can also get bundles of the fresh herbs at Walmart all winter.
I find dried celery seed a good addition to fresh salads.
Green onions are in season now and add zing as well.
Dried red pepper flakes spice up anything.
When making tomato based sauces/soups always add Worchesterishire and soy sauces to the mix.

I have always been leery of trying that one.

It depends on what I am trying to season.

I use cinnamon in my oatmeal.
I will season chicken and fish with garlic powder and paprika.
For marinades, I mix basil, dijon mustard, and ranch dressing.

It isn't as crazy as people try to tell you. I have to pour tons into my scrambled eggs to even taste the stuff.
