Yaatee
...this is the 32nd edition for 2011. It is the companion to www.religiousministries. com. It is free to religious ministries, dioceses and spiritual directors, and costs only $10. for lay people. You can order by calling 914-632-1230 or send an email to info@religiousministries.com Reminder: if you want it sent in a plain wrapper, SAY SO. I asked for this, but they forgot and I got questions from family members. Or have it sent to a friend. There are cards to pull out, mainly for the men's communities, and ads, which help pay for the publication. It includes all communities who fill out the questionnaire, and is the most comprehensive guide in the US. It is updated every year. Descriptions include contact info. LaPetiteSoeur
This book is amesome. At many diocesan vocation retreats they are given out. It's very helpful. It's also fun to read all of the stats on orders (where, who, etc).
Yaatee
This book is amesome. At many diocesan vocation retreats they are given out. It's very helpful. It's also fun to read all of the stats on orders (where, who, etc).
I am glad that you like it. It's the most complete around. Some don't like bec it has ads and includes everyone, includ communities that don't have habits (gasp!)--but it's the most complete. The ads help to keep the cost down, so that it can be distributed free, and even at $10.00 each, it's is really a bargain. Think of all the work to update it every year. Be warned that it isn't completely up to date, tho'. For example, it still lists the Mobile Al and Kensington CA Discalced Carmelites, which have left to join the Cristo Rey Carmelites (CA) or retired and been replaced by 8 vietnamese nuns (!). However, some smaller Benedictine communities merged with their parent congregations, (Liberty, MO and Eau Claire WI) and these aren't listed anymore. The old McCarthy illustrated Guide was also fairly complete, but had a long list of communities that didn't respond. The current Guide seems much more complete than the old McCarthy, although McCarthy did have pictures of so many habits!
