Sarah147
Hello, Someone recently mentioned that in order to receive a plenary indulgence for the Divine Mercy Chaplet (or it may have been Sunday), that the requirement of being free from sin attachment wasn't required. Is this true? Any documentation? God bless you.
Cherie
Hello, Someone recently mentioned that in order to receive a plenary indulgence for the Divine Mercy Chaplet (or it may have been Sunday), that the requirement of being free from sin attachment wasn't required. Is this true? Any documentation? God bless you.
According to the decree on indulgences attached to devotion to the Divine Mercy from the Apostolic Penitentiary (Link from the Vatican Website here) from August 3, 2002: "A plenary indulgence [is] granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff) to the faithful who, on the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday, in any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honour of Divine Mercy, or who, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!")" (bolded part my own) Therefore, being free from the attachment to sin is required for the plenary indulgence attached to Divine Mercy Sunday. Perhaps the person you know was referring to the fact that a person still receives a partial indulgence if there is an incomplete fulfillment of that condition.
