franciscanheart
Currently all my books are packed away and I can't get to "Story of a Soul" which I am positive I still own. I cannot remember which translation I had and can't find the cover I remember online. SO, I need your help. Which translation of this book is best? Thanks friends. Piccoli Fiori JMJ
+JMJ I really enjoyed the ICS version. It was very easy to read and understand. There is also a study edition with questions and reflections.
Translated from the critical edition by John Clarke, OCD, 3rd ed. (1997). Includes general and biblical index, with 8 pages of photos.
Edited March 7, 2011 by FutureNunJMJ

SrBenigna
I was told by 3 different Carmelite Prioresses that the Fr. Ronald Knox's edition - not translation really - of "A Story of A Soul" was the bests because it is word for word what St. Therese originally wrote. The other editions, (unless there is one besides Fr. Knox's) who just printed exactly from her copybooks, they are the versions that Mother Agnes (St. Therese's blood sister) edited/rewrote a lot of it and not what St. Therese herself wrote. I have this version, the Clarke's and another and there is a difference. I prefer Knox's book. There is a Knox Story of a Soul here at Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Autobiography-Saint-Therese-Lisieux-Story/dp/0006235778/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1299537897&sr=1-1 - for 1 penny! My book has a different cover than this one on Amazon.

If so, I need to let management know so we can get you a "Religious" tag.
OnlySunshine
I have this translation, and I liked it, though it was a bit difficult to comprehend in some parts. I think it has older English translations than I am used to:
Chamomile
Bleh. I think Amazon put the picture of the book I have as the picture for another edition. Edited this post for that since I linked to it, and I'm not sure what that version is and how it compares to mine or others... Cherie
John Clarke, O.C.D.'s translation is the definitive one You can get it from ICS Publications, as others have shown.

OnlySunshine
Has anyone read the book about Sr. Genevieve of the Holy Face (aka Celine, Therese's sister)? I'm curious to know more about it because I saw it offered at a bookstore once, but I didn't have time to look through it. From what I remember, it was good. Celine was a beautiful soul, and if it weren't for her, we probably wouldn't know as much about Therese as we do!
